Joy Orme, Roommates.com Rent deposit scheme. Internet Only

A few weeks back I advertised an apartment for rent in a small mountain town in Colorado on Roommates.com. In a couple of days I had a reply from a woman by the name of JOY ORME who was in a rush to rent my place. Like the person from San Antonio who was almost scammed (see previous Ripoff Report), I had a funny feeling about the whole deal.

Bottom line...JOY said her financial advisor would forward a check to me for the first month's rent plus a security deposit. She was to move in on the 4th of January. I never received the deposit and after numerous emails to JOY ORME I never heard from her again.

Something smelled fishy so I Googled 'JOY ORME' and sure enough I was directed to the website 'Ripoff Report'. There I found that two other people had almost taken JOY ORME's bait but were wise enough to smell out a thief.
Supposedly, JOY ORME sends you a check (from her ficticious financial advisor) for more money than was requested. Then she asks you to return the difference before she moves in. Luckily, the person from San Antonio smelled a a rat and waited for JOY ORME's check to clear. Turns out her check bounched and was from a closed account.

So...to all of you out there...let common sense prevail when an unknown person asks you to send them money.
