I am submitting this complaint for my sister-in-law Donna. On 11/18/05, she went to JP Chevrolet to test drive a 2005 Pontiac sunfire car. The salesman Ryan, Talked her into purchasing the car. That night while talking to friends of hers they informed her she payed way to much for the car and would have a very hard time trying to make the payments. So the next day 11/19/05 she went back to the dealer with her friends to cancel the agreement. JP Chevrolet told her its too late the car is yours.

The next day I was told about her dealings with JP Chevrolet, and could not believe it. They charged her $16,495 for the car which has 29,500 miles on it,$2041 for an extended warranty, $1268.24 for a life insurance policy to pay off loan it she dies(she is single, why would she need this). $595 for GAPI protection. Plus tax title and others making a grand total of $21,632.03. She gave a $2000 downpayment, then they did her a big favor and financed it at 8.84 percent for 72 months making a $352 a month payment.

I went onto the internet and logged on to the Pontiac website to look up prices. New 2005 Sunfires are still available and they have a red tag special going on. The highest price that is listed is $14,200, thats $2300 less then she payed for the used car. Then on there web site they have a listing for GM certified used cars, so I typed in my zip code and it showed me three 2005 Sunfires in my area.

One was $12,995 it had 3800 miles, one was $10,995 it had 13,000 miles, and one was $10,950 with 29,000 miles. Since her car has 29,000 miles on it I decided to view that one. Boy was I shocked when I saw JP chevrolet has the car and it list the vin number on the internet which matches my sister-in-laws.

When you lookup what GM certified used means it lists besides other things a 3-day/150-mile satisfaction guarantee. Then I called GM customer service, and they had me talk to JP Chevrolets manager Scott Ansteth. When I asked him why they charged my sister-in-law $16,495 for a car that is listed at $10,950 on the GM certified used car list he said the price on the internet is wrong and they won't take car back.

I then called GM customer service back and Rick who is the same fellow I talked to the first time said it is up to the dealer to honor the 3-day / 150mile guarantee and GM will only file the complaint. I have filed a complaint through the BBB of Illinois and the Attorney General is sending me forms to file, but what else can I do for her?

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!
