I have had my Chase account open for the last year. I was issued a limited account due to an overdraft history when I had Wamu however the overdraft had already been paid for and taken care. I was finally upgraded to a regular account about 2 months ago, and I also opened a savings account. I set my account to notify me if my balance ever reached below a certain amount. My pay day is on wednesday so I thought it was a little odd that my balance was so low on Wednesday but figured it was just a lagging text from the day before.
It wasn't until Thursday morning did I notice my savings account was missing 100! When I checked my checking 400.25 was missing due to a WITHDRAWAL TO ANOTHER ACCOUNT. I called customer service and was transferred to 3 different people. My entire pay check was gone, and 100 from my savings so I thought I was victim to fraud! It had been explained to me that I had a past due balance from an account when Chase was Wamu. I said how come I was never notified? I've never received any phone calls, no letters from Chase, and NO bank representative indicated that my account was red flagged for a past due balance.
The lady told me it was my responsibility to know I had a past due balance and they don't send out notices ( which isn't true) I asked the lady, so in a 3 year time span, your company didn't deem it necessary to collect a past due balance but some random date nearly a year after my account has been open you just withdrew 500 from my account with no chance for me to pay it, no notice, leaving me with 100 to my name. A few days later, charges that had not gone through PRIOR to the 500 being withdrawn went through, leaving me with an overdrawn account and now me with a zero balance.
I called again and was told I couldn't speak with a supervisor and I was eligible for a 70 refund in overdraft fees but that was all. I think it's criminal that they would just unannounced take my money. They also did it WITHOUT providing ANY proof that I owe the balance and for what account. The response to what was I supposed to do now that I had no money until pay day, the person told me, get a credit card. I am disgusted with the way they run their business and am waiting for the letter of proof of an owed balance, which as I said I"m not sure why it took 3 years to produce, and a paid in full letter. I will be closing my account on Monday first thing, and will NEVER bank with Chase again.
