So I have had two accounts with WA MU for a few years now. One in my husbands name and one in mine. We have NEVER paid late and almost always paid MORE than the minimum balance. We received notice about the takeover a couple of times and kept every scrap of paper they sent to us to make sure we understood what that all meant and had things to refer to in the event of a problem. Well of course about two months ago our interest rate hiked with no prior notification and no explanation afterward. My husband noticed the difference this month, so actually quickly considering this months bill was the second month of the hike...and I called Chase today to ask them to lower the rate. Surely this must be a mistake right?
Not from what I have read on this site! Well the girl on the phone was less than helpful and told me that I had missed my "Opt Out" date back in FEBRUARY from the notice I was supposedly sent back in December by WAMU. Of course I pulled out my folder of credit card info, no such notice in any way shape or form.
I told her this and she insisted we had received the notice, they had no returned mail (since I haven't moved in 6 years duh) and no notification from USPS that there was a problem delivering. I asked if this was something I had to sign for and when she said no I asked how she could prove I received it. She rebutted with asking how I could prove that I did not. I assured her that any notification of a possible rate hike for a good consumer would have make me opt out immediately and that was proof enough. She told me I was welcome to close my acct and pay off the balance due. I asked if I would be subject to additional rate hikes and she said that no new agreements would be put into effect, but that my rate was now variable and she couldn't say that it wouldn't fluctuate, but that she could assure me we have the best rate possible at this time...right.
I know better than to close the acct before paying off the balance, the whole reason we got the stupid thing was to improve our scores, looks like now it will turn against us and do the opposite. I think we might just get a conventional loan at our credit union and pay off both cards plus our discover card, close the two chase cards, keep the low rate discover but not use it and weather the storm...better not to have unsecured debt anyway right?
She did give me an address I could write to to have my account "reviewed" since she was unable to disclose any further information to me over the phone for some unnamed reason...
Where is a good lawyer who is willing to take on a class action suit against these criminals in our society??? What on earth...seriously people, if EVERYONE banded together and Stopped paying on their accts...what would they be able to do?? They would have to close their doors....of course getting mass people to do something like that requires too much effort and no one is willing to do it, nor would many people follow through...fear of the man as it were....we're all a bunch of idiots.
