J&R Marine Services performed absolutely horrible “work” on my hull blisters, went $3500 over estimate WITHOUT APPROVAL, failed to perform contracted work, cut the fibreglass around my shaft without authorization, refused to repair it, and were almost two months over schedule on the repairs I contracted them to complete, the delays of which cost me additional thousands of dollars.

While there, I was subjected to emotional abuse and harassment at the hands of Robert “Joe” Pocklington, the owner, who has NEVER MET ME, but saw fit to yell at me on the phone more than once. I was lied to, I was deceived and I was coerced on more than one occasion/

Despite prepaying almost double my estimate amount, I was billed an additional $3000, which was demanded in CASH only and immediately, despite the business accepting wires, credit cards and other methods of payment.

Although the owners, Rhondia “Ronnie” Pocklington and Robert “Joe” Pocklington told me that this was a liveaboard facility that charges liveaboard fees, there is no drinking water, nor even safe water. The water is literally yellow, reeks of sulfur and burns your eyes and whatever knicks or scrapes you might have.

They regularly sand/grind resulting in hazardous waste falling directly onto the ground without a drainage or treatment system. The staff and customers all use the regular Waste Management Bin to dispose of hazardous waste DAILY. There are literally professionally made signs that instruct guests to rinse bottom paint off themselves outside onto the ground, in the bathroom before showering.

They charge you for power use, but do not provide consistent power, instead it fluctuates around 105V, which killed my battery charger, thereby killing my BRAND NEW set of 4 AGM batteries and creating a fire hazard. And the cheap management doesn’t just bill you for power, they bill you per plug-in you use.

During my time there, without previous warning, Randy Bure, Rhondia Pocklingtons Brother, and resident “site manager” literally sprayed all the ground under the boats, including all of our tools and equipment with CHEMICAL HERBICIDE, then DIDN’T Tell anyone what it was, so we all got covered in it (including my dogs!)

The place is absolutely INFESTED with bugs of all sorts.

There are cameras WITH AUDIO everywhere that staff/management literally spy on you with.

The person who did the majority of blister repair on my boat (unsupervised) told me he had no experience AT ALL. His workmanship was so poor I had to correct it on five different occasions. Despite this, management has denied knowing that there was EVEN A PROBLEM. I LITERALLY cried asking them to fix it previously.

J&R Marine Services employs alcoholic felons who live in derelict boats on their property to perform some of their most expensive/major engine and electrical work.

They pad their hours, lie about the work they have done and literally MAKE UP charges. ANYthing to get as much money as they can. And once you have hired them, as per Floridas maritime laws, they hold a contractors lien on your vessel until such time as you pay them what THEY FEEL they are owed, and agree to whatever terms they dictate. Meaning they will not give it back to you unless you pay their extortionist fees and made up/inflated charges.

They literally took my tarps, and then denied taking them, and then CHARGED ME $130 for tarp use. There have been MANY reports of staff/yard employees stealing privately owned equipment.

In response to my having painted my own hull when they FAILED TO by over two months, I literally received FIVE INVOICES in 24 hours (via email), each revision adding new and higher charges to make up the profit they lost by not doing the painting work, which their office manager then denied sending.

In the last month, I have received 8 variations of my invoice. When I sought a meeting with Rhondia “Ronnie” to discuss my Invoices, all of which share the same invoice number, same date (july), same due date (july), She intentionally avoided me for DAYS, telling me to speak to the office manager, DON FRIZZELL, who told me I need to speak to RONNIE.

While waiting for a meeting with her, i was instructed that if i do not pay, I would no longer be allowed to personally perform work on my vessel. As in I, myself, the owner, would not be allowed to complete tasks on/around my own vessel, despite J&R being a DIY yard.

She is absolutely the big lady boss in charge until there’s something unpleasant to say/do, then she intentionally avoids you, tells you it was her husbands idea, or delays you by telling you to speak to a seperate staff member, who will refer you back to her.

When I FINALLY, weeks later, managed to get a meeting with her to discuss my “final” invoice and the “work” that had taken place, she yelled at me, pointed her finger right in my face, called me names, waved papers in my face and blamed me for the TERRIBLE work J&R performed, while simultaneously offering to lower my most recent demand for cash by a thousand dollars. During this meeting, and in EVERY interaction I have had with anyone, I have been polite and professional. She also added various conditions to this “offer”, including that when the boat is launched, I am not allowed to tie it up to a dock, or even wait in the slings to ensure there was no water ingress, this despite the fact that J&R replaced the cutlass bearing and worked on the shaft for hours.

After the “discounts” were applied, management (read Ronnie) literally used them to threaten and coerce me, saying that if I did not pay in cash, by a specific date, and do exactly as she said, including signing paperwork that features a paragraph indemnifying the yard, that she would raise them back up and hold my boat for an additional month or more.

Rhondia “Ronnie” and Robert “Joe” also took a vacation for over a month during which NO WORK gets done at the yard. I waited to have blisters opened, despite my having informed management and marked them, BEFORE they left on vacation, until AFTER they got back because the yardies literally don’t do ANYTHING that they don’t want to unless she is there to make them. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. READ THE REVIEWS!!!!

These people are crooks who will bilk you for every dollar they can. NEVER bring your boat J&R Marine Services OR to their son, Brady Pocklingtons sister yard, Charlotte Harbour Boat Storage.

The Canada govement is looking for these people for ripping them off.  They leave a trail everywhere they go.  Canada would love to find them.
