I had a very negative experience with Juniper credit card Barclays bank. I injured myself back in July of 2008. I was severely hurt in a bicycle car accident and we suffered some financial difficulties due to this accident. We did our best to keep our payment sup with the company. I am currently on non-paid medical leave and received a call from Juniper on November 22, 2008.

After a long conversation with the representative we made an arrangement that I would pay $200 towards my account and they would match that for December so I would get the time I needed to heal and return to work in the New Year so I could take part in the $2000 pay off in January.

At the time of the arrangement my wife was the only one working as a substitute teacher assistant. Her income does not cover the family expenses. I received a call from a new representative on December 2nd stating that I needed to make another payment.

At this time I had just come out of the hospital for cervical traction for my injuries and was in a Halo. I explained to this representative that I had already made arrangements to be clear until January 2009 when I hope to return to work and I could end my business with their company.

I reiterated to this representative that I was on non-paid medical leave and we had no money for them. I also question why I was receiving a call this month because I had made arrangements with one of their representatives in November to get the time I need to heal and return to work so I could pay off my card.

She was rude and stated that would have never happened and I owed them $753 today. At this point I was very upset, in pain and could no longer take her verbal abuse. I told the representative that I had no money at this time and they had gone back on their arrangement they made with me in November. She continued to badger me so I said my good-byes and hung up.

Do not trust this company. As soon as I can pay this card off I plan to end any business dealings with them forever. Further I do hope some one can get some form of action against this company. From the articles I've read they must be stopped and not allowed to continue operating. No wonder our economy is in such a horrible state.

I would writ eto the HQ in Wilmington and direct a statement the General Legal Counsel.

Tell him that by initiating that second call, they are HARASSING you and therefore they have lost all priviledges to contact you in the future by phone. ONLY deal with them in writing.

Reiterate in the letter the payment arrangement you agreed to and follow it. Hopefully, you received a confirmation in writing from the rep you originally spoke to, however, I doubt it based upon the reputation of the company. Reps often make promises and they fail to honor them.

Be careful if they send this to collection. They only leave it with an agency for 3-6 months then they pull the account and send it somewhere else. You don't want your payments getting lost in the shuffle.

If they continue to harass you, I recommend contacting the Federal Trade Commission and the Delaware Department of Banking and file a complaint. Neither agency will do anything for you and that is a story of itself why, but victims need to speak up.

If they continue harassment even though you are paying, I would recommend consulting with an attorney or filing against the bank yourself for Fair Debt Collection Practices violations based on the harassing calls. You need to document every call though and have a paper trail. It isn't easy, but it can be done.

Most attorney's will not help unless you have a substantial retainer to hand over.
