WHERE DO I START !?
Normally, I would never post anything negative on the web about any person (or) organization. However, after my experience with the "interview process" at K Marketing Group, Inc., I feel compelled to inform ANYONE fortunate enough to search for this company on Google about exactly what this organization is...
I have been applying to a large number of job opportunities in the Metro Detroit area over the past several months, and encountered a similar experience with Turner Enterprises Inc. (Roseville, MI) and Detroit Business Consulting (Troy, MI). All three of these companies are tied to a larger organization (Cydcor), which is the ultimate scam/joke... ***I won't dwell on my experiences with the other two organizations in this thread (I will post about them as well)*** - but stay away from these as well
- So, during my online applications, I applied to a "Sales Manager" position with K Marketing Group, Inc. Later (THE SAME DAY), I was contacted by Charina Hansen (Director of Human Resources = AKA RECEPTIONIST). She advised me that her manager had reviewed my resume and was interested in bringing me in for an interview. Now, I was not by notebook with the companies I had applied to (dates/companies/titles/etc.), so I had no idea at the time of the call that I had just applied THAT DAY...so I accepted the interview (BIG MISTAKE). She scheduled my interview for the next day (today), where I would meet with her manager (Sam Striker = President = AKA - Pretend Businessman).
- So, I do some online research and do not find enough information to decide whether or not this outfit is a scam...so, being a diligent person, I decided not to cancel, and instead attend my morning interview with Charina and Sam (my mistake...).
- So I show up to my interview 15 minutes early, and I am greeted by the receptionist. Wouldn't you know that the receptionist was Charina?!?! Since when do Directors of Human Resources hang out in the lobby behind a receptionist's desk (the office looked like it was run by inexperienced high schoolers & had I not driven 30 minutes to get to their office in Farmington Hills, I would have turned around as soon as walking in). I decided that I would go through the interview as it could not take any longer than 20 minutes or so...and if for no other benefit, to find out what these people were all about.
- Turns out that wasn't a bad idea...as hopefully I will help many of you save your time and stay away from this stupid organization.
So, after filling out a brief "application" (1 page basically asking me if I was a felon), Sam exits his office (adjacent to the receptionist's lobby) and asks me to into his office. Now, I recently graduated from college (only a couple of years ago)...and here I am sitting across the desk of the "President" of this company...and he is exactly my age...with LESS EXPERIENCE than indicated on my own resume...Are you kidding me?
- We sit down, and I immediately figure out that this whole company is a joke...and know what is to come...but since you don't...let me inform you. He sits across the desk talking to me about how much money he earns (doubt it - his suit was awful and worn) & about his experience as a door-to-door salesman that helped "cultivate" his personality and enable him to achieve such greatness (wow...). He uses phrases like, "that blows" and gives off the "pretend businessman" feel more than if you would script an MTV Boiling Point episode...
- He asks me a couple of questions, and then tries to nonchalantly/unintentionally belittle me (a sales tactic from his end to assume a powerful position in our conversation) by asking questions about my major...making negative remarks...(until he realized that I have more sales experience than he does...a proven track record and a whole host of options in front of me that are far greater than anything he can offer to me) - but let's not jump ahead...
- He asks me questions about what I would like to be doing in the next 5 years. I inform him that I would like to eventually leverage all of my sales experience and leadership abilities to begin training/coaching others to succeed. I inform him that I would like to fall into such a role immediately, as I already have a great deal of sales opportunities available to me, but management/leadership seems to be the better move for me at this stage of my career. Not to mention that I could begin law school next fall, so in terms of earning potential, whatever position I would accept at this point would have to be sufficient enough to justify not going to law school (although I do not inform him of the potential of the latter - obviously).
How does he respond? HE TRIES TELLING ME THAT HE WANTS TO GET HIS ACCOUNT MANAGERS INTO TRAINING ROLES WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE OF MONTHS ON THE JOB. WOW... SO YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT YOU HIRE ALL OF THESE SALES PEOPLE AND THEY ALL BECOME TRAINERS/MANAGERS/COACHES IN ONLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS!??!?! This guy was a royal idiot - Sam Striker - the idiot.
- Then, I ask him about the position, and what it entails immediately after hire. He tells me that they are partnered with "QUILL.com" (Quill is an online affiliate of Staples that sells office supplies via the Internet). Now, that isn't too bad...except for the part he omitted where ANYONE can go onto Quill.com and purchase office supplies at any time. Well, apparently, Quill needs help in improving their sales...so where K Marketing Group, Inc. comes in is here --> They hire a bunch of fools to literally go door to door to various companies (because apparently they are not skilled enough on the phone to get through gate keepers and schedule real appointments like real people)... He claims a door-to-door success ratio of 1 / 10 (doubtful). (This is where I teach him about Manta.com - a tool for finding out the Executives within organizations so that you can actually phone them and try to set up appointments - something he had no idea about). The new-hired "Sales Managers" at K Marketing Group are really his "Account Reps" who travel to business in the area aimlessly asking them to purchase office supplies from Quill.com. So, it is a DOOR TO DOOR SALES JOB. Now, as many fake businesses like this one will do...he promises the world to people when they interview... "You said you wanted to be on the fast track to management...well here is your chance!"
(Remember, people can just go on Quill.com to buy this stuff anyway - and that is if they even want i from STAPLES/QUILL!!!!)
- I then ask him who Quill's main competitors are...and he replies, "Uhh...Office Max...Office Depot...and uhhh Mom and Pop shops" - Mind you, I know people in the Chicago area doing office supplies sales (no, not a glorious job, but at least they are real)...and there are companies that do this..other than just this wacko and his high school staff... Meanwhile, he is talking about expanding to Pittsburgh and Miami...and I must also make you aware of the fact that this company has only existed in Michigan for less than a year and a half.
- So, we wrap up the interview and he tells me that I did very well and that he would like for me to come back for a "2nd round interview", which is really an ALL DAY JOB SHADOW - to see if they like me - yea right...more like free transportation for one of their sales reps to take me all around Farmington Hills and surrounding areas knocking on doors for free.
Obviously, I will not be attending any 2nd round interview...or ever going to any interview that begins with a contact-process such as the one I experienced with Charina at K Marketing Group.
BUT PLEASE PEOPLE BEWARE....TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS...
So many companies out there pose as real businesses...and you may think they are profitable and have good employment opportunities to offer you simply because they wear a suit and have office space... BULL **** This guy was a moron...with less experience than me, and yet was a PRESIDENT of the organization... If it smells like a duck, sounds like a duck and walks like a duck....IT PROBABLY IS A DUCK. I'll give Sam Striker this...he talked a big game, but it was all too obvious... He was a KID IN A SUIT...and recruiting people for DOOR TO DOOR SALES...I mean I would have trusted a used car salesman over Sam Striker.
Nothing else was discussed in this interview. Not pay, benefits, hours, the standard day to be expected by a prospective employee...NOTHING. Why? Well, because the pay is probably straight commission and probably no more than $50/day - and I'm sure you pay for your own gas $ etc etc etc
BOTTOM LINE ____________________
STAY AWAY FROM K MARKETING GROUP, INC. AND ANY COMPANY LIKE THEM...
(DETROIT BUSINESS CONSULTING & TURNER ENTERPRISES INC. ARE EXACTLY THE SAME BUT WORK FOR DIFFERENT CLIENTS - TURNER ENTERPRISES SENDS YOU DOOR TO DOOR TO SELL AT&T UVERSE... HAHA - yea not funny)

Misleading

You are stating in your reply that if a person receives a phone call from someone in this company that it is simply because the company making an honest effort to give them a job opportunity and that the person simply need to accept or decline it; this company is not "a scam". I respectfully beg to differ because this is the second time my personal information has been taken against my will and used in a dishonest manner. This is the second time I have had a gut feeling that I was being "suckered" and googled this and found testimonies that other people had been "suckered" by a company that was trying to take advantage of people.
Point being there are companies that are trying to hire people (i.e. offering a product that will offer to take on people's talents and will make money as they work together) and there are companies that are trying to "make a buck" (i.e. stealing from people and from other companies).
I went on unemployment a few months ago and began searching for jobs at a few online job sites. I got a call from a woman, who misprounounced her own name (the last name was "Johnson", had a heavy Middle Eastern accent, and was calling from a call-center) and offered me a "job" with Vanguard. This is a very big insurance company. Right away, I had red flags popping up. As she talked, I looked up the company online and was confused; why would this big-time insurance company have such a poor method of contacting me for a job?
Then she tagged on another insurance company on the end of Vanguard. I wrote that down and looked up that website. That website was much less impressive and made much more "sense"; this must be the company that was really contacting me but she kept saying Vanguard and attaching the other name. (Perhaps to make it sound more impressive?) I asked her about the actual position and she was very vague. She kept giving numerous job positions. "As bankers we do this...as managers we [mumble, mumble, mumble...]...as trainers, we [mumble, trail,] but once you come in, we'll give you more detail." I asked her what I should wear. "Dress professionally and bring a copy of your resume."
?? "Don't you HAVE a copy of my resume?"
"Well, you'll need a HARD copy of the resume. It's more professional. AND a copy of your ID. And dress professionally. And don't be late. We also request you come 10 minutes early."
Well, of course I'd bring a copy of my ID and dress professionally! And of course I would come early...what's with the 10 minutes?! This is weird! Why won't she answer my questions about the actual position?! This is fishy!
I went to Google and looked up the hoakey insurance website, along with the address, and found numerous (I'm talking at least 30) testimonies of people (dating back 20 years) who had been burned by this company. They had gone to this interview - some had driven 2 hours to these "interviews" where there were groups of people and yet some didn't even get interviewed. Some of these "interviews" were at hotel lobby's! Some paid money to in order to "pass a mandatory test" and then failed and then some had come back to the "building" only to see that the building "relocated".
The most common story - which was my story as well - was that these people were looking for work and these companies stole these people's information from job sites and offered them a fake job. These companies gave these people a false hope. These companies LIED to people. These companies want to USE people. These companies do not offer an occupation (which would be a job that offers gainful employment - a job that pays your bills, makes you feel good about contributing to society and stretches your abilities even further...). Nope. These "companies" are lying and taking advantage of people who are struggling as it is. They are misleading.
Just today I got a call from a "Josh" who said, "I got your resume here and I would like to ask you a few questions." I put in a lot of applications recently and I found it interesting that in our whole conversation, to everything I said, his answer was "Well that's great" and he never once told me the actual name of his company. 3 times he said, "We're located off of [named the two streets]". I had to ask him twice to give me the name of the actual street address for the interview but he would never give me the name of the business. All I got was "We're a division of Staples". If there is nothing to hide, why can't I get a straight answer? That's not honesty and integrity. And what kind of a real job or real employer says, "Well that's great" to everything you say? That's a "cream cheese" job. (And if these jobs are so great, why aren't people banging down the doors to get them?)
So I respectfully disagree with you and I am so thankful for all the people who have been posting the blogs and these ripoff reports (and I keep posting mine to help other people) and I pray that every single one of those "companies" go bankrupt and get ripped off for what they are doing to good, honest people that are doing their best to make a good, honest living. Because in the end, good, honest, hardworking people will win and the scammers will get their judgement. God keeps the books and no one gets past Him.

VERY Unprofessional company...

Luckily, I found this page before going to the interview.
So my experience briefly. I received a call from Nars Group as well as Turner Enterprises today in order to set up my interview for the position on tomorrow.
After reading all the information about the company on their site (which was extremely vague) I decided to look to other source for information and, fortunately, I ran across this. So I gave them a call back to cancel my interview appointment and after thanking them for the consideration, I was abruptly hung up on.
I guess they don't appreciate people that dig a little deeper to understand their company and end up finding complaints.
After this call, I received the call from Turner Enterprises in Southfield and I found it incredible that the receptionist offered me a morning interview for 11a without offering a 9a or 9:30a. (I guess she had been corresponding with the Farmington Hills office and discovered I scheduled one for 9:30a.) I actually tried to reschedule it for Wednesday and she had the nerve to ask me what my plans were for tomorrow as if there were no other day but tomorrow for my interview. After that question, I politely declined the appointment and processed to conclude the call.
With this being said, I can assure you that this company is not one to associate with. They are extremely unprofessional and just sketchy.

K Marketing Group

K Marketing Group is an independently owned marketing firm and is part of the Cydcor family. The simple fact is this: should you be contacted by us for an interview and subsequently offered a position, it is your decision to take the job or not. We do conduct a job shadow as the second stage of our interview process in order to help us and you determine whether or not the position is a good fit for you.
We do not represent ourselves as anything other than a marketing company that does business-to-business outside sales on behalf of our client. If the position is unclear to an applicant, he/she has several opportunities to ask any questions they like prior to, during and after their interview.
The structure of our company is multi-level vs. a corporate structure. The benefit to this is that an employee does not have to wait for someone to quit, get fired or retire in order to move up. Unfortunately, this is a structure that is unfamiliar to many people but that doesn't make it "a scam".

what a scam they posed as AAA to get me to interview
AUTHOR: D - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, June 12, 2012
so, this morning I got a call from Teresa Monroe who said she was from AAA and she wanted to set up a 9am interview in Farmington hills at the 38751 W 12 Mile Rd Farmington Hls, MI 48331 office. I though hey awesome, I got an interview with AAA great and I took down the information and didn't think anything about it. Then about a half hour later I got another phone call from a Nars group wanting to set up an interview with me based on a resume I submitted. They wanted to set up an interview for 10am and I told the lady that I couldn't do a 10am cause I had an interview with AAA at 9am and she kinda laughed and I not thinking this was a scam accepted a interview at a later time that day. So, then about an hour later something about the ladies voice on the phone started bothering me. So, I attempted to call Teresa Monroe back who claimed to be from AAA only to find out that the number that called me was from a Google Voice number and no one was answering. So, then I call the AAA office and they claim that there is no Teresa Monroe on staff anywhere in the company of AAA and that there was never an interview set up for me. However, I realized that Nars group's address was real close to this address and that it sounded familiar to me 34119 Twelve Mile Rd, Suite 200, Farmington Hills, MI 48331 which is the exact same address of Kmarketinggroupinc.com and about 4 other alias businesses who all have the same address and phone number. They misrepresented themselves to me inorder to get me out on that end of town so that they could set up an interview with me that I might just attend. What a scam, I can only imagine what they do to you once you start working there.

Completely Agree!

I had an interview yesterday (November 2nd, 2011) at Turner Enterprises Inc., in Southfield. When I entered their Suite, their Director of Human Resources is the Receptionist as well. She was playing rap music fairly loud and wore tight and revealing clothes. I asked her how old she was and she stated that she was 22. She said that everyone that works there is in their 20s and the owner of the company is 25. We talked for about 10 minutes before I went in for my interview. She stated that they like to hire people who are outgoing and love to have fun, because every Thursday night, they all like to go out and do stuff together. They want someone to join their "close family". When I went in for an interview with Lindsey Carr, she was much more professional, but it still made me wary. She dressed and talked professionally. She did not discuss pay, benefits or hours of work and said that will be discussed if I were to receive a second interview. Lindsey looked like she was 23-24. When I got home after the interview, they called me about a half hour after. They said that they would love for me to come in for a second interview and shadow someone from 1:20 P.M. till 8 P.M.
I was already wary of the place, but pieced it all together after I read this Report. So thank you for posting it. It's going to save me a lot of trouble and BS.
