Our vehicle was hit by another driver, and we took it to Kadel's Auto Body in Beaverton, OR as that was the company our insurance company recommended, as well as our recommendation. My wife, via her work, has been sending people to Kadel's for years now, however, after this stunt, the referrals will stop cold. We want everyone to know how they operate, and that, in our opinion, is illegal or at the very least un-ethical.

When we took the vehicle in for the estimate, we were told one price. However, when we went to pick up the vehicle, the price was inflated almost a thousand dollars, maybe a little more, I'lll have to check. In any event, when I confronted them about this, they commented that since it was an "insurance" pay, why were we concerned? For one, we do not believe in supporting any company that would knowingly defraud an insurance company. Also, we were NEVER notified of the changes made to the bill. WHen we objected, we were told that "better parts" were used at their discretion (still without notifying us.)

We did not pay the deductible to Kadel's as we were not going to support their fraudulent activities, nor give them any more money. They gave us harassing phone calls, threatening letters and now I've finally had it with them. If needed, we will pay the measly $400.00 just so it does not go against our credit reports with a collection agency. However, we will voice our opinion to all who we encounter whenever we can. The referrals from my wife's work will stop now, as well as mine. I know of another auto body shop that does not defraud insurance companies in our opinion. I will refer to that shop and let Kade's lose 400 customers for that $400.00 absurdity.

We have reported them to the insurance company for what they did, and the insurance company says they will investigate. Good luck to them is all I can say.

I was thinking on your deductible.  Wouldn't the right thing to do be to give your deductible to the insurance company as they are the ones getting ripped off.:)

I think this is completly wrong on every level and I agree with you. I would refuse to pay them as well.

And to the guy who put in his rebuttal. Granted they did not want to pay. Its not the same as going to the store and saying they have made enough money. If anything its reciving stolen property. Yes its paid for by insurance but not at a fair rate which might as well be considered stolen. And my friend fraud is a crime.

I see this all the time. I live in Southern California and will soon be making my way to the Beaverton area. But here accidents happen all the time. I myself have taken my car in 4 times for body work. I have family that own shops through town and when my car got smashed from another driver running a red light my insurance made me go to a shop on the east side. I asked them if I could use a family shop cuz I knew they did import cars and I could make it cheaper on everyone. They told me to just take it to the shop they recomended. So after the estamate at $4200 with my $500 deductable that I had the other driver pay I left my car for a week. When I got the car back the price had almost doubled and I told them that was rediculouse and I would not have my insurance pay that till I saw a total statement of every nut and bolt. Figures the parts where just under 2000 but the other 6k god only knows. So I told them yes I'm not paying but even for a 3 series its only a fender bender and was a unfair amount. They told me that the parts they used where upraded ones and took more labor to istall because that makes sense. I better have a new system I didnt see. But anyways I reported them to the insurance company and provided them with the list of items they put on my car and an exact mark up of what it would have cost to the dollar for my uncle to do it. and what he though would have even been high end fair. Needless to say that company has lost a lot of buisness.

So in all you did the best you could you reported them to the insurance company and I comend you on your moral stand point which you dont see anymore. I think just because its not your they are ripping off dosnt mean that its ok that they do it to companies that make a fair profit and a fair payout. Its obvious that some people dont care who gets screwed as long as they get a good deal. I'm so sure his customers mortgage comes before his own.

Again I comend you.

Estimate's are just that, an estimate.Thai is not fixed in stone. I would say that 70-80% of all job's have unseen damage. If this man has got you better quality part's, he has done you a favor. I guess you could say, he's taking care of his customer. You didn't complain about the job, so I'm gonna assume it was a good job. Taking care of his customer agian. You said you have to pay $400.00 for a deductable. Most deductable's are $250.00, $500.00 or $1000.00. If you only owe $400.00, sound's like he has saved you money. Once agian helping his customer.
I have to wonder if you are just trying to get out of paying you deductable by using scare tactic's. If you go to a store and get item's, then say I am not paying, you have made enough money today and walk out, what would be the difference? I think you are looking for a free ride. If he done what he charged for, Pay him what you owe and quit dogging him out.
I have a small shop, I do everything I can to take care of my customer's. This remind's me of a person that didn't want to pay her deductable and didn't. I let it go in hope's she will never return.
