On December 21, 2009 I initiated contact with Mr. Kory Benken expressing my desire to return to school. I was weighing my options between universities that had online degree programs.

On January 6, 2010 I decided to proceed with enrollment. They required a $70 fully refundable deposit in order to enroll. I gave them my deposit. On January 13, 2010 after seeing the final numbers and seeing that financial aid would not fully cover tuition, I requested withdrawal. I came to the realization that I could not afford Kaplan and enrolled in another institution.

After following up several times on the status of my refund, on February 3, 2010, I spoke with Mr. Benken and he assured me that my cancellation has gone through and I could expect a full refund of my $70 deposit within 5 days.

On February 19, 2010 I followed up again on the status of my refund. After several emails, I was told via email on February 20, 2010 that I would receive my refund "ASAP".

On March 4, 2010 I followed up again via email. This time they confirmed that my cancellation request from January 13th was processed on February 20th and I could expect the refund to be received 4-8 weeks from that date.

Needless to say, I am completed frustrated by this. It took them 39 days to process a cancellation request. And while it only took them 2 minutes to charge the $70 to my card, it will take them (best case scenario) a total of 3-4 months to refund it.

If this is how they treat prospective students, well, you'd be a fool to even entertain the thought of enrolling in Kaplan University.

POSTED: Friday, March 05, 2010

On March 5, 2010 @ 3:04pm EST I received phone call from Kaplan (954-512-5022) saying they have pushed the credit back onto my credit card.

As of 3:22pm EST, I do not see the credit on my statement. Will check daily and update this report accordingly once received.
