I purchased a dog from the breeder. My money was taken gladly by the breeder. After reviewing her web site many times and talking to her I decided to buy a dog from here. My neighbor has also bought 3 dogs from her.

It has been less then two years and my dog has developed some genetic problems. After observing a cloudy spot in his eye we took him to his vet and discovered he had a cataract in his eye. I was then referred to an optomologist for dogs. I then discovered that he had dystichia, a condition where the eye lashes grow into the eye ball.

After letting my neighbor know about the eye problem, I discovered that my dog's half sibling had the exact same eye problem. The surgery for one eye is 1,300 dollars. After my neighbor contacted the breeder, the breeder responded with "that is way too much money, I can have that surgery done around here for 40 dollars."

After I contacted the breeder I was spoke to very rudely telling me that her dogs have no genetic problems. Out of the four dogs that my neighbor and my self have, 3 out of the 4 dogs have genetic defects.

At the time I purchased my dog there was a gurantee of a 1 year money back for a death, and lifetime for genetic problems, as told on her website. Now she has removed that money back gurantee and replaced it with a credit towards a new dog.

Since the removal of that gurantee it leads me to belive that she is knowingly and willingly selling dogs with genetic defects. I would not advise anyone to buy a dog form the breeder. She is a fraud, a liar, and a scam artist who should not have any contact with dogs.

My neighbor and I have 4 dogs total from the breeder. One has hip dysplasia, which Karen refunded the money that was paid for her. The dog needed to have a surgery to repair it. Now, regarding my dog he has dystechia the eyelashes growing into his eye, up over the eyeball. His half sister, from the same breeder has the exact same eye problem which occurred at the same time. After talking to the eye surgeon, she told me that it was genetic as we have two examples of dogs from the breeder with the same problem. Karen, on her web site, claims that her dogs have no genetic problems. And, she goes on to say in her web site that her dogs are free of genetic defects. So, I don't know who to belive, the person who slammed the phone down on me or the eye surgeon who has had over 20 year experience. If she cared about breeding dogs and not just to make money, which she claims on her web site, spend some money and get some new dogs and not breed the same ones over and over. She also took her money back guranttee off her web site, which leads me to belive that she knows there is something going on or there would be no need to remove that gurantee.

Do you mean that 3 out of 4 have eyelids growing on the inside of the lid, which is common in shih-tzu's and some other breeds? Or are you talking about other problems? You can go to the animal eye care net site and look in the eyelid diseases section for more information. Anyone thinking of getting a shih-tzu should go there and do some research so you can be a little more prepared about what to expect :-).
