Gibbs College in Boston, MA (all over the US too) offers in-demand career training and indepth job training and placement in the field, trained by people that work and are experienced in the field. Training in 2 years that readies you for the job. Buuuuuuuuuull.

I signed up for their animation program I had seen advertised all over. I fell for the magic because I wanted to learn in depth 3D ANIMATION. I worked hard and fell for their tricks to find out 3 semesters in that I was attending on the wrong days even though I met regularly with career services, my department chair and his asistant and more. The problem though, they had the same 3-4 "teachers" teaching each and every class. An "experienced teacher" consisting of someone they find that fails out of their career and doesn't even have a degree to teach teaching a class about a program they don't even know (what good is training someone to use flash by reading a book you havent even looked at but they're just reading verbatum whats in the book without even knowing what they are reading?) Students are forced to buy expensive new books (or used but still expensive) they never actually use in the courses. Students are forced to sign for expensive loans that they are suppose to be able to pay within 6 months to 2 years after they graduate.

They realized their error 3 semesters deep and changed me to the animation schedule. I was given 2 (2!) animation courses that werent all that in depth and then was handed to a graphic design portfolio class where I was told to make a graphic design portfolio (even though I protested that animators need DEMO REELS more than portfolios). The teacher refused to awknowledge the animation program as a real program. In the end, all animation students were handed graphic design degrees.

In that time there, I saw a dean get taken away by police and fired. I saw a placement internship teacher tell us we're worthless jackasses and we should do his job because hes the greatest artist ever and then watched him get fired and the class go up in smoke.

I have a degree for graphic design yet have no experience with either indesign or quark.
The placement office has not been able to help me find a job for 3 years, despite their promises to find people a job. When they do, it's low end no degree requirement jobs like stapels, kinkos, the gap, home depot, McDonalds.

They promise students and parents a bright future in their career field. In the end all they offer is debt in government and private loans working for the same job that the person would have been able to get without them.


When addressing their placement staff, the placement staff tell you to train yourself (in tasks you should have been taught by the school)


The company that runs all Gibbs Colleges needs to be put out of business and all students that are being forced to pay these companies needs to be fully refunded.

If you are a student looking to go to this school, don't do it. Just go to a public school like MassArt, you'll get more experience for lower money.

If you're a parent looking at the school, just say no.
