Keane Old company, new tricks. Now they are telling you what company supposedly has your money Southeastern, Pennsylvania

Thanks to Ripoff Report I was able to confirm my suspicion that the letter my 91 year old mother received today is a scam of some sort.  It is headed with the name of a big Fortune 500 company followed by "c/o Keane"  It states that the company has had important documents returned by the post office and they want to confirm the address of the owner of the assets.  They say that they are writing on behalf of the big company.

Naturally, this scared my mother and she tried to call them.  They started into a barrage of questions and demanding information, including account numbers, to "verify" that she was the actual owner of the account.  She does own stock with the big company.  We have never missed a quarterly report or dividend check.  As a matter of fact, we deposited one only last week.

It took me less than five minutes to fine the reports on Keane Corporation on this web site.  I called them to find out what kind of scam they thought they were running.  Their tactic is to ask a barrage of questions and tell you that they only have a limited amount of time to spend on the phone so you have to hurry with your answers.  They don't let you talk at all unless you force the issue.  

When I told them that I had found the scam reports on the internet they didn't even bother to deny it.  When I mentioned the possibility of fraud charges the conversation was quickly terminated.  Beware.
