I contacted KitchenAid on behalf of my boyfriend regarding a non-functioning microwave needing repair.  The representative sold me a "repair plus 1" warranty which included the initial repair plus 1 more year of coverage for $350.  The contracted appliance service company came out to repair the microwave then proceeded to walk off the job because he claimed the microwave was not installed properly.  Therefore, I contacted the original builder of the home who came to investigate and stated that the microwave was indeed installed properly.

In addition, I checked my credit card statement & saw that I was charged $449.95 instead of the $350.00 initially quoted.  Since the work was not completed & I was over-charged without my consent, I called KitchenAid requesting a refund of my payment & cancellation of the policy.  KitchenAid said that they are no longer responsible & I need to contact the warranty company with whom they contract (Assurance).  KitchenAid refused to give me the name of the representative who sold the policy & claimed that they don't keep any telephone records and have no way of finding out who sold the policy. I spoke to multiple representatives & supervisors without any progress or assistance.  They all kept saying that there's nothing they can do for me.

Then, I contacted Assurance who said the policy is in my boyfriend's ex-wife's name & she needs to be the one to cancel the policy or transfer it to me.  The ex-wife has nothing to do with this transaction. When I initially called KitchenAid, I gave them MY name & number as well as MY credit card information which was charged.  KithenAid had her name in their system since the home was purchased when they were married and the representative who sold the policy just put her name as the policy holder instead of mine & NO ONE was able to comprehend that fact.

Now, I'm trying to get a refund of my money which is nearly impossible.  My boyfriend & I each spent 4-5 hours on the phone with KitchenAid & Assurance who continue to give the same statement...the warranty is under the ex-wife's name & she's the one that needs to cancel it in writing.  But the ex-wife never purchased this policy & has nothing to do with this transaction.  They refused to investigate the name on the credit card in order to verify that it was me or follow-up on any phone records.  Assurance also refused to offer any other assistance & just fraudulently over-charged my credit card without my consent.

Both if these companies are unethical & just try to sell policies without full disclosure & make it impossible to get your money back.  It's been such a frustrating process.  I would NEVER recommend either of these companies & definitely, DO NOT purchase any warranties from them.
