In 2003 I bought a pair of KLH Audio Systems speakers at my local Best Buy. I thought they were a nice pair of speakers, rated at 250 watts per channel and with a five year warranty. My stereo is a Pioneer receiver rated at 28 watts per channel, hardly capable of blowing 250 watt speakers.

Recently, I noticed that the tweeters in these speakers are blown and the crossovers are shorted. I tried to contact KLH to arrange for some warranty repair or to inquire about just buying the bad parts rather than shipping the speakers to California from Iowa. The telephone number is either busy or just rings and rings. I have sent a total of 23 E-mail messages over the past few weeks with absolutely no response from them.

If they refuse to answer their phone or E-mails, they can't honor warranty repairs or serve their customers. My E-mail messages were very polite for the first week, then I became more insistent upon a response, reminding them that, "Reputable companies will answer customer inquiries promptly, especially customers likely to buy something." No response.

Finally, I added to that, "Other companies just rely on sticking it to anyone they can, and are not interested in customer satisfaction or repeat business. The eventual outcome of this inquiry will determine if I ever buy KLH speakers again or post negative comments on several consumer report websites about your company." Still no response.

It's obvious to me that they don't care about honoring my warranty or even selling me the parts so I can do the repair myself. Apparently, they don't even care if I bad-mouth them on the internet, either.

So, when you buy speakers, I hope you'll remember my experience with KLH Audio Systems junk: speakers that can't handle one tenth of their rated power, and a company that completely ignores their customers!

KLH are not play toys for children to Slam and Overpower.

AUTHOR: Klh-man - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 01, 2008

Children like this one Reporting bad speakers, did not even speek of the fact that the Store they bought at,(Best Buys?) are responcible for the first Years warenty.
Is it not Odd that this person did not even bother to take them back to the Proper Business they bought them from?
99.9% of the time these Children will Blow the speakers and then go and complain about there own LACK of responcibilty towards NOT using Higher output Amps to pound out the tunes, thus causing there own problems.
This person is either not knowing what they do, or really just working for another Company selling simular speekers and they are Dissing this companys Rep.
1960 and have done business for quite some time. Then being able to sell through the Best Buy name. Now does that not say that the product is fine and this Person is just stating False information?

It is about the Wheat from the Shaft and all I see@@ is that this person is shafting people and complaining about nothing at all.
They should go to there Best Buy and show the problem and then reciept to get there money back?
OOOOOOOOOO ya !!, they already tried that and the Best Buy told them to take a Hike, because they really dammaged the item and now just want there money back for there own abuse of the item.
Less expensive speakers do not mean they are bad, usually it is the User/Operator that does not know how to use them and or the products limits.
They should READ the information speks and apply the logic. People want to pay Less$$ and get a full TOP end item worth 100x.
It is an OLD Story and it goes on and on.
People ought to GET A grip and PAY$$$ the proper amount for the proper item and DO THERE HOMEWORK.
Quit complaining and Get a Grip on life!!
Children keep bashing others, instead of just doing there homework on what they buy.
They need to stop playing the Child Card.

Distortion from overstressed amps and KLH status

AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 07, 2008

First, the previous responder is correct. You have a fairly weak amplifier (14 watts per channel) for a pair of 250 watt speakers. You can ruin a speaker by putting too much power into it, this is true, but you can also ruin it by turning up your amplifier too high. What happens is the amplifier isn't able to produce the frequencies as clearly as it should and they wind up being horribly distorted. This distortion causes the speakers to vibrate at rates that are self-destructive. Without inspecting your speakers, it's impossible to determine if that's what happened but, regardless, you should make an effort to closely match your amplifier's output with the speakers your hooking up to it and never, ever, turn up an amp to its "maximum" volume.

Second, the KLH website is once again down for "redesigning" and the number of new products on the market has dwindled to two. By all appearances the company is effectively out of business (although it may come back in the future as it has been sold and changed hands several times since it was founded in the 1960s), but for now I would consider any warranty for these speakers to be worthless. I'm not sure that's a "Ripoff" but it's definitely a buyer-beware situation.

KLH is apparently still in business, only their products and customer service are kaput

AUTHOR: Randy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 13, 2007

KLH Audio Systems is in Sun Valley, CA, and may or may not be the same one started by Henry Kloss in Boston, MA. Their website is still up and running, and they are apparently still in business, they just refuse to answer their phone and E-mail.

I double checked my receiver's specs, my mistake, it's rated at 28 watts total, or only 14 watts per side. The speakers are fraudulently overrated at 250 watts each. I understand that you can easily blow speakers with an overdriven amp, but I never turned it up to even the level of audible distortion in these speakers. I think that their true rating is much less.

At the very least, this company should have replied to one of my 23 E-mails. The fact that they choose to ignore me speaks volumes about what kind of company they are.

I once knew KLH. I don't know KLH Audio Systems

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 12, 2007

So KLH Audio Systems may be kaput. They may also be unrelated to KLH (started by Henry Kloss in Boston MA).

B/t/w/ FYI: a low powered (28 wpc) solid state amplifier or receiver CAN blow the tweeters in "speakers rated at 250 watts per channel". If you overdrive the amp it overloads and puts out high frequenct trash which fries the tweeter.

There are a LOT of nice speakers at all price points. Do a web search for Athena, Mackie, JMLabs, and on and on and on..... In fact, try "loudspeakers" and you should find a ton.
