KOA Augusta / Gardineer KOA Augusta / Gardineer located in Richmond, . kicked off Richmond Maine

I would like to express my grief and sadness in reference to our stay at said KOA. Over the years, we had visited so many KOAs, and we never had an issue whatsoever. Not even once.

 First, the camp uses false advertising about access to the lake, a dock, fishing from the dock and boat rentals. There is even a picture of people fishing from the dock. The dock is not available anymore and has been crossed out from the camp map. Upon arrival one representative told us we could rent boats and kayaks. The next morning when we asked about it, we were impolitely told that “they had stopped renting” starting now!  So we were unable to rent a boat.   

After arriving to KOA we asked about late departure as the site advertises that $5.00 per hour will be charged for every one our of late departure. However, they said I needed to pay for one extra day rental if we were to stay for longer than one hour pass regular check out time. About 20 minutes after arrival we were asked to go back to our cabin because of inappropriate dress. I wore a regular over the ankle summer dress. About 30 minutes later we were stopped by the same individual, David, again saying that we can’t cross someone else’s camping sites, which we did not see we did on our way to the bathroom, so we apologized. 

The next morning we left for local area shopping. We came back around 6pm and lied on the grass relaxing. About 5 minutes later, a staff member came to us and stood next to us and yelled it was inappropriate.  We did not know what was inappropriate and soon we learned that my another dress was again “too short.” This time I wore a different dress. I felt like a prostitute! Because it was summer and because I had a beautiful summer dress which I had used for years before.  I cried while my boyfriend tried to talk to David who soon said we had to leave in one hour. They literally removed us from the campground at 7.30 pm on Saturday. I asked for written reason for us being removed, which ended up the camp calling Police. I asked the officer to write a reason for our removal in the police report.

Now I understand why the camp was empty. There were maybe 10 families in the whole camp. The staff was rude and policed usr every step. We had problems finding a place to stay, as we were over 300 miles away from home. We asked for a Police report to be made with the reason of us being expelled.  The Policeman said he would do so and said he did not see anything inappropriate about my dress and that he could not do anything because the camp can make up their rules.

I can’t even explain how I feel now and then. Looking at the KOA reviews of the camp, I see several reviews with removed content. That makes me believe it must have happened before. I would appreciate a follow up in this matter. I would urge you to follow up on this. I consider KOA a company with a great reputation and feel this should not happen again to anyone.
