I would like to share my experience of being a vendor at the LA Ultimate Women's Expo this past October. I have a clothing line of dresses and scarves for women and I donate the proceeds to my veterans' charities. It's called "Dresses for Vets".

When I heard about the LA Women's Expo and was sent material about the event, it was presented to me as being an upscale, executive businesswomen type of event that would be attended by thousands of women, so I thought it would be a great way to sell some dresses as well as promote my line and my veterans charities.

In the beginning, when I filled out the contract and paid my $1,200 for my booth space, I was getting little or no contact back from the organizer of the event when I was inquiring about my sales permit. They gave me lengthy paperwork to fill out to apply for the permit but then never followed through with getting it for me and I had to get it on my own.

When I arrived at the Convention Center that Saturday morning, my name was spelled wrong on the signage on my booth. When I asked to have it corrected, I was told by their staff that they did not have any capabilities of changing it.

Once I set up, I was horrified to see that on one side of me was an explicit porn store accessory booth with dildos, sex harnesses, anal plugs and other pornographic merchandise. On the other side of me, was a stripper pole with strippers wearing little or no underwear spreading their legs and stripping on the pole.

I was shocked and stunned that a classy vendor like myself would be put in an area like this. I didn't even know this type of expo would have these types of vendors or this kind of area. When I begged and pleaded to talk with the manager, no one responded. I waited the whole day and no one came to talk to me.

I was so embarrassed and humiliated because I had invited so many people to come to this thinking it was a classy and upscale event. When I saw the clientele coming in, I was equally disappointed. It was certainly not the clientele that was pitched to me - not by far. In my opinion, these shoppers were not spending money, it was all about what they could get for free.

On the second day, I went back and finally was able to talk to the manager and said I wanted to leave immediately not to mention, I was horrified to see they were letting little children in the shopping area with strippers and porn booths. When I asked to leave, I was told, "We can move you to a different area," but at this point, the damage for me had already been done.

Once I left, they gave my booth space to another vendor right away and then refused to refund my money. This was a very bad experience for me at the LA Women's Expo.

Tyg, you are WAY off base with this one. I've been invited to these expos before (both as a consumer and a vendor) and it would have been very simple for the promoters to organize the booths in a way to prevent what happened. There are many vendors who would have been uncomfortable being next to "adult" products. Lest you think  I am a prude, I do shop at these types of stores ocassionally:-)

Additionally, the management's failure to respond to her requests was wrong. When you pay good money to promote your name and product you have certain expectations. This poster was absolutely right, and the management was wrong.

ULTIMATE WOMENS EXPO F-RATING EXPOSED

AUTHOR: here to help - ()

POSTED: Thursday, January 09, 2014

Chilldren should not be allowed into an area of an EXPO that is displaying pornagraghic material. Additionally vendors should be placed amongst other vendors with like products and services.  Any reasonable person would agree that it is a mistake for the EXPO  organizers to expect a vendor with childrens toys or perhaps scrarfs and dresses to be placed next to pornorgraghic subject matter.

The person suggesting that the above complaining vendor  has an issue with sex is a moron.

By the way, ULTIMATE WOMENS EXPO HAS AN F RATING WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

Expo...

First YOU should have done some research on this BEFORE you paid them. Second, its an EXPO, which means that ANYONE who pays the fee and has product that can be marketed at the demographic thatthe expo is about can pay THEIR fee and have a booth. Sounds to me that YOU just did not like s**t being near YOUR booth. Im sure it was a shock to YOUR sensablilities when you saw this. But, this is a YOU mistake, as you did no real research BEFORE paying them. Ok so they had booths that sold items not being scarfs and dresses. But people stop at these booths and the young lady next to you stripping is ONLY doing a job. I would suggest that if you do not wish to be around SEX, lock yourself in the closet and do business from there. Because its going to be the only enviroment that can be completly controlled. Just because other vendors are selling sex and your selling dresses is no reason to demand a refund. Most expos are just buildings that a group of vendors go to in order to hawk their wares. Those vendors that are selling sex HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO SO.

Im sorry but your issue really looks like YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SEX!!! Do you really think you should be calling those people out? Just because they are NOT selling the same thing you are is no reason to invalidate what the ARE selling. They have the same rights to try and earn a living. If you have that much of an issue with sex, then dont go to expos. Seems pretty simple to me.
