I adopted a puppy from Alena last year (2008) and I noticed that he was was a little ill the day after bringing him home. The puppy became progressively sick over the next few days until I decided to rush him to an emergency clinic in the middle of the night, on the fourth day of having him in my care. My puppy had to be admitted, and spent days hooked-up to an I.V. and given powerful antibiotics until finally being released to me with special instructions from the vet.

I contacted Alena several times about the condition of the puppy and she down-played the situation, telling me to change the food and then just ignoring me all together. I have talked to other people who have bought puppies from this breeder and they have been through the same thing. They purchased a puppy from her that became deathly ill within days of taking it home. Alena treated these concerned owners the same way that she treated me - casual indifference and excuses.

Our vets were never able to find the direct cause of our dog's illness, but they did say that it was obviously something that was contracted before we purchased our puppy (due to the stage of the illness). Today, our dog still has a highly sensitive digestive system and has to eat medically formulated food from the vet.

*It is my strong opinion that this is not a responsible breeder.* She changes the name of her operation and the name of her website to avoid having customers connect complaints about her to her business -- and if you look at other rip off reports she has plenty of complaints against her name. Unfortunately, I didn't see them until it was too late.

This has been my unpleasant and heartbreaking experience with this breeder, my only hope is that my story helps others to avoid the same situation.

Please visit the Canadian Kennel Club's Website (or the AKC in the US) to find accredited breeders - or go to the SPCA if you want a mixed breed.

Wrong for new owners to blame Alena for their mistakes

AUTHOR: LP - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, August 20, 2010

I find it disturbing to read this internet slander against Alena, but not surprising as you don't need any proof to write lies or crap on ROR.

Regarding the fear based aftercare Vets in Victoria (CVC). People need to be aware that puppies and dogs do get diarrhea just like people and that Diarrhea is the #1 reason people take dogs to the vets. With all the food recalls and people worried about kibble brands,  more and more people try other alternative methods of dog food which does not always agree with the puppies or adults system.

It is always best to go to the breeder home were the dog was bred or housed to find out what you have done different since the puppy left.  If the puppy goes off their food with in 24 hours after leaving their home it's normal.  If the puppy hasn't been exposed to any outdoor grass areas, vet clinics, change of food, deworming or vaccines or puddle water then the puppy most likely picked up something while at the breeders.

As the new puppy owner gave there purebred puppy canned food with in hours of taking him home, it clearly shows that the IBS was caused by the change of food. As all the Vets Tests came back clear / negative this is proof that the change in the puppies diet would of caused the IBS. Poodles are known for sensitive systems and anyone that owns one knows they can't just switch food on a whim.
Puppies should not be given canned food if they haven't had it before, this is a guaranteed case of Diarrhea!

Just to let everyone Know that this AKC poodle was not bred by Alena or Labradoodle Passion but By Kris Homman from the USA and the new owners where fully aware of this.

This report is misleading, untruthful and written by some one that couldn't take responsibliliy for their own mistakes. (Many people find it easier to blame others even when the proof or test results suggest otherwise!)

Facts: This dog was not bred by Alena
Facts: This dog was healthy when placed from Alena's home.
Facts: This dog was vet checked and given a clean bill of health before it left Alenas
Facts: This puppy did not have diarrhea before it left Alena's
Facts: The new puppy owner fails to write: they gave the puppy pure canned grocery store dog food the first day they took him home (they took the puppy and were suppose to go buy him dry kiddle as advised by Alena but didn't).
Facts: They changed the puppies food with out Alena's knowledge
Facts: Alena responded to all their concerns and emails all Two of them!
Facts: Alena went out of her way to offer help but this wasn't good enough for them
Facts: The new owners got worried about their puppy. Which was days after taking him from Alena's. They took him into an after hour vet clinic.
Facts: Alena got two calls over this matter. First call was on the second day they had him and it was them looking for advise on how to handle his new bowel issues. As a professional vet assistant, experienced breeder and care aide Alena advised them on methods as to handle the problem.
Facts: The second call Alena recieved was on the third day (during the night) explaining they had to take the puppy to an emergency vet clinic as they got really worried about him and were going to keep Alena updated. That Alena gave instructions for the vet to call her regarding any concern or history on the puppy.
Facts: They refused for Alena to see the dog or speak to the vets after they decided it was her fault
Facts: Julies parents used to breed CKC poodles and insisted on buying the puppy out
Facts: They reported Alena to the SPCA after going to the vet clinic. They did not provide full details as to what they did with the puppy or the results on the testing before and while in their care.
Facts: SPCA found Alena to not be at fault in anyway!
Facts: They wanted Alena to give them the puppy as they had to pay vet bills.
Facts: Buying a puppy listed by CKC does not get you a healthy dog or from a responsible breeder, and to suggest such things is misleading to the public
Facts: Doodle breeders hear these terms often "Just mutts, go to the SPCA if you want a mutt" These are words are often heard coming from CKC breeders or past CKC members.
Facts: Most mutts are not intentionally bred dogs from pedigree background which are fully health tested and selected for excellent quality to help create a new breed of dog.  Most mutts are accidental breedings of X and Y dogs that roam the streets.
The differance is the Labradoodle Assoc. requires all dogs bred to be fully health tested and passed before allowing them to have litters registered. CKC requires no such thing and that is why so many purebred dogs have health problems.

I would recommend a puppy or dog from Alena or Labradoodle Passion in a heart beat! She is vet recommended by John Gayfer at Juan De Fuca Vets.  She was listed as an Australian Labradoodle Association Breeder and approved by several other top quality registries while she was an active breeder. I know she is retiring but does occasionally have puppies or helps other good breeders find homes for their dogs.  This is a women that will not hesitate to lend a hand and is truly a kind sole. Alena is an honest and caring women. She is well educated as a vet assistant to the proper care and well being of dogs and animals and would of advised them professionally in a caring manner.

Anyone can search the web to see the list of reasons a puppy can get diarrhea
Remember this puppies test results were all NORMAL, and THE SPCA FOUND NO WRONG DOING!

Jamie Vs. Alena and slander posted on ROR

AUTHOR: LP - (Canada)

POSTED: Sunday, August 15, 2010
On going matters over the slander posted on ROR and the court order to have the false statements removed.

Jamie Sheppard died while being sentenced in court for jail. He was being in front of the judge for being held in contempt of court for not paying damages to another breeder to taking her dogs breeding them and not paying as agreed. Jamie was ordered several times to do the payments and he refused. He did not care about the law or who he scammed, he was truly a sick man in more ways than one.  I will post these comments for the public to see and to help them understand why the reports remains etc.

It does not matter responding good or bad to the comments posted on Rip Off Report as once the seed is planted and people wonder if it's true or not the damage is done. The laws for slander and defamation are the same in the US and Cdn.

The legal court order for Mr. Sheppard was to remove the listed names from public view based on the findings that it was false, and found to be slander and defamation of character would be the same in the US as in Canada. As Mr. Sheppard suffered a fatal heart attack while in court he will not be able to update his postings and remove the names. We are now contacting the owner of Rip Off Report that is responsible for keeping the site up and running and available for public view to assist us in the removal of the names.  The order was granted based on the conditions that the postings were found to be slander and defamation of character and false. Which is against your posting policies and grants the removal based on this alone. As the owner or worker of ROR that is responsible for keeping the site updated, regulated and posting reports to the server we request that they receive this massage in full. We are requesting that this person responsible for making the reports available for public view to grant the legal court order based on the nature of the findings.

We thank you in advance and appreciate your understanding plus cooperation over this matter.

Wrong to Blame Alena for Puppies Diarrhea caused by new owners

Here is some stuff to read about diarrhea

Puppy Diarrhea

- causes and treatment

If you have a puppy, it's a pretty safe bet that you're going to see some puppy diarrhea sooner or later!

Puppies tend to eat anything and everything, plus stress, a change in diet and all sorts of other things can result in Loose Stools.

You want to keep little Fido healthy and happy, so it's natural to worry when your puppy's 'poop' doesn't seem normal.

Although puppy diarrhea isn't unusual, and it can signal something as simple as a reaction to a new puppy food, it can also be the symptom of some pretty nasty dog illness and diseases.

But before you start to panic, take a few minutes to read the information below! It tells you a bit about the different kinds of diarrhea most often seen in puppies, what to do about it and....... when to worry!

The different kinds of puppy diarrhea

Diarrhea in puppies can take range from a soft pile to a jet of water..and just about everything in between!

If your puppy's stools are just of the soft, chocolate-pudding variety there's generally no need for instant panic.

There are several possible reasons for the change in consistency, these include -

  • A change in diet
Switching your puppy from one brand of food (or from dried to canned, commercial to home-made etc) is a very common reason for loose stools. To help avoid this, be sure that any change in diet is made gradually, over at least a week.

Begin by replacing a small amount of the regular food with the new one. Then over the next 7 days or so, gradually increase the new food while decreasing the old. By the end of the week, your puppy should be happily eating his new dog food without any upset.

  • Stress
A puppys' digestive system can be fairly delicate and may be affected by stressful situations. Things such as leaving their mom and siblings, a visit to the veterinarian, getting used to a new home environment, excess excitement or exercise and so on, can trigger this type of puppy diarrhea.

It'll usually right itself over the course of few days, meanwhile you can help by making sure your puppy has plenty of quiet time, lots of fresh drinking water available and monitoring his bowel movements to be sure that his 'poop' returns to normal rather than becoming more loose.

  • Eating something he shouldn't!
Little puppies are endlessly curious, and often seem to believe that EVERYTHING is edible, until proven otherwise! If your pup has been snacking on left-overs from the garbage can, the flowers in your front yard, or something of that nature, puppy diarrhea is most likely going to happen.

Obviously it's important to re-double your efforts to keep undesirable objects from being ingested by Fido. Many times the forbidden things a puppy has eaten are fairly harmless. But there's a whole range of stuff that's toxic to dogs (sometimes to a deadly degree).

Many of them will surprise you, and are commonly seen in any home or yard.

If you're in any doubt at all about what your puppy has injested, or believe it may be harmful, contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Control Center at once. You can find tips and advice on what to do if your pup does ingest something poisonous, plus the emergency telephone number you need, on my Dog Poisoning page.

When you're dealing with a fairly mild case of puppy diarrhea, focus on eliminating the cause and replacing any fluids your puppy may have lost. You can use unflavored Pedialyte instead of water, or mixed with it.

If your puppy is drinking well, is bright-eyed and lively, and isn't getting worse you can probably afford to just monitor the situation. However, if little Fido seems lethargic, dull eyed or just 'not himself', or if his condition deteriorates, seek veterinary advice straight away.

Quite often diarrhea is accompanied by Vomiting, and it can also be caused by something simple or by a serious illness or condition. If Puppy Vomiting is present along with the diarrhea, it's even more important to be extra-cautious.

If the puppy diarrhea is liquid (anything from soupy to watery) there's reason for concern. There are many reasons for this type of diarrhea -

  • Parasitic infection
Your puppy could have developed an infection caused by parasites, such as Coccidia or Giardia, both of which can cause pretty severe, foul smelling diarrhea (sometimes accompanied by vomiting, lethargy and loss of appetite).

A bad case of puppy worms (particularly roundworms) can also result in your furbaby suffering from puppy diarrhea and/or vomiting.

The most immediate concern in this case is that little Fido will become dehydrated, which is a dangerous condition for a puppy. As little as 24 hours (or less in very young puppies) with diarrhea and vomiting can cause a puppy to become seriously dehydrated.

Whenever you see this kind of puppy diarrhea, consult your veterinarian right away. There are tests and treatment for these causes of diarrhea in puppies, and IV fluids are also often necessary.

  • A serious disease
Many of the most contagious, serious (and often potentially deadly) puppy illnesses have diarrhea as one of the major symptoms.

This kind of diarrhea is usually very watery, and can contain mucous and/or blood (shows as red or brown). This is a very serious situation and immediate, emergency veterinary care is needed if your puppy is to have a chance of recovery.

Dog diseases such as Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis and corona virusare just some of the possibilities when this kind of puppy diarrhea is seen. Don't delay, see help right away!

Watery, mucous-y or blood streaked puppy diarrhea is a red flag. Don't be tempted to 'wait and see', seek professional veterinary assistance immediately. Your puppy's life could literally depend on it.

Severe diarrhea that could be associated with illness, needs immediate veterinary attention, and you shouldn't try to treat it yourself.

However, for the occasional bout of diarrhea caused by a foray into the garbage/stress/dietary changes etc, (or for dogs who regularly have loose stools/bowels but have been pronounced otherwise healthy by their veterinarian), here's a wonderful herbal product that can make your dog feel much better....

Just another victim of a disturbed Goldendoodle breeder

AUTHOR: Puppy farms are cruel - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 09, 2010

I find it disturbing how Winsome Kennels owner Jamie writes false statements and ads on ROR and Kijiji to glorify himself and make up stories about other peoples puppies. How low can a person go, shame on you for attacking so many people and ripping off so many workers and other breeders.

Winsome Kennels has a history of breeding poor quality dogs with heath problems. He stoops to all time lows to say he bought s**t dogs from other breeders which he can't give away.

I guess since he bred and kept breeding stock from these dogs for four years all his dogs are s**t quality!

Buyers Beware of any write ups on ROR against other breeders which lead back to Winsome Kennels. He has a history of posting false write ups on may internet sites.  False reports about people is his sad attempts to hide the truth about his puppy farming, legal problems and reported abuse. He continues to try and redirect the truth about his kennel by saying it isnt him but others.

March 2010 protest reveals mother dog dies after working reported the day before something was wrong. Jamie tosses her in burn pile and torches her.

Winsome Kennels is for sale, but buyers are learning this property has a lean on it from an unpaid court ordered win against the kennel.

#2 General Comment

It is clear that Jamie owner of Winsome Kennels will make up what every he needs to try and harm Alena

AUTHOR: Ted - (Canada)

POSTED: Sunday, December 06, 2009

In my opinion, it's very clear this man needs to see someone about his behavior.

He continues to story tell and post false statements, slander and cause defamation towards others. His reactions fueled by hate are disturbing.  If he could only get his head out of his asswhole for long enough maybe he then could think straight. Blaming and posting against others for what is happening at his own kennel is also very disturbing.

I do believe all his postings are reflecting on what is happening at his own kennel and life. He is trying to blame others and hide the truth to what is happening in his own life.

It is clear this man is troubled and would benefit by getting some professional help. With his lengthy problems, police reports, court case against him and so many upset people this man needs to look at himself for why is this happening? Its people reactions to Jamie Sheppard own behavior.

I do think he needs to look into mental disorders. He clearly has a childhood history of abuse or neglect that has led him into a life of abusing others.  This man needs to stop and look with in himself to heal his life. For his family, he needs to stop taking advantage of people. Pay his fines, and get help.

PARANOID

We've probably all heared of the word paranoid. It means that a person is overly worried or suspicious of other people. People with a Paranoid Personality Disorder tend to think that other people are deliberately putting them down or are out to get them. They react really badly when they have setbacks in their lives and often bear grudges, or believe in conspiracies against them that are clearly not backed up in fact.

DISSOCIAL (ANTISOCIAL)

These people don't have any regard or compassion for other people. They seem to have no idea of responsibility or the proper way to behave. Their behavior is usually very antisocial and they tend to get very frustrated and very angry quickly. They can and do set up relationships with other people but they cannot keep them going, and they do not seem able to feel guilt or learn from any punishment (from the law or otherwise) that they might receive.

Alena Strelaeff Labradoodle Passion puppy adoptions Julia could not be happier with her health puppy

AUTHOR: Julia Simpson - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, February 19, 2009

I Julia would like to clarifie that the above statement about Alena Strelaeff and Labradoodle Passion is misleading and false. I do believe who every posted the above letter has a grudge against Alena. They appear to be enjoying causing mischief. A person that appears to enjoy causing harm and distress to Alena, her hobby and reputation, I so have to say SAME ON YOU. I do feel sorry for her, and want to say she is a wonderful person and not the monster a sunshine coast breeder claimes.

I Julia would not have adopted a puppy from Alena if I did not feel her puppies were not healthy or well cared for. I would not hesitate to recommend adopting a puppy from her, or asking Alena for advise. She is a very educated and experienced dog handler and care taker. She is a busy mom and always took the time to get back to us. I also do not feel AKC or CKC papers mean you will get a healthy dog. Many puppy mill operations have purebred registered dogs. A piece of paper does not mean the puppy is well cared for or comes from fully health tested parents. I would like to clear up the false statements listed above.

Curt and Julia adopted a dog from Alena in the summer of 2008. The puppy was not raised or bred by Alena but send to her from Briarcreek Labradoodles in the US. Alena had purchased him as a possible future stud dog. The sweet natured out going little boy stole our hearts the moment we saw him. A poodle puppy with two health records proving he was healthy, he even had his stool tested which was all normal. I am aware that Alena did not breed or was the breeder to either of the puppies that developed loose stool or had any involvment which would of resulted in our puppy getting sick.

We found out that back in 2002 a puppy was shipped from Briarcreek to Canada that arrived with loose stool that required medication. I also found out that this puppy was not Alenas but another ladies. Kris the breeder and owner of Briarcreek labradoodles did confirm that the health testing was done on our puppy before entering Canada. The test results came back all normal, just like the tests we did.

This above report is false, and would like to clear up some misleading info on our new puppy Logan and what happened between Alena and us.

I bought a dog from Alena that had just come from Briarcreek Labradoodles in the US. The sweet natured healthy little boy was the families favorite which slept with Alenas kids each night. We met Alena on an several occasions visiting her dogs and playing with the puppies. I found her place to be very clean and well looked after. The puppies were all healthy, well cared for and playing. Alena was very friendly and down to earth. She took time out of her busy family life to accomidate our several visits and answer any of our questions. I feel she should be used as the industry standards on proper raising and socialization for any puppy. After our third visit to Alena's we adopted our poodle puppy. We called him Logan.

A couple days after we took Logan home he developed Diarrhea. This was not Alena's fault or anything that she could of done to prevent it but rather our mistake. We are new puppy owners and learning the do's and don'ts as we go along. We changed his food to soon resulting in gastro upset which was our own error. We learned the hard way that puppies can get Diarrhea because of many reasons. Logan was exposed to many of them around the time we adopted him. We changed his food from dry to can. He had just been vaccinated, dewormed, and the stress of changing homes. I didn't realize that at puppy could get dehydrated so quickly from Diarrhea. We did the right thing and took him to the vets. The vet recommended leaving him for IV treatment, we did as the vet suggested. We were not going to take any changes with our puppy. He responded very well to fluid treatment and bounced back to normal very quickly.

We wrote Alena thanking her for all her help:

Thank you for all your time, patience and for helping us find the perfect pet. Kurt really wanted a labradoodle but I am glad I got my poodle. We have called him Logan. He didn't eat a lot the first night we brought him home. I assumed that was normal from side affects from vaccines and the stress of new home. On our way we stopped and picked up some canned dog food. We couldn't find the same brand you suggested. He loved the moist food but wouldn't eat the dry. We ended up giving him one and a half cans of soft that night. Which ended going right through him.

My mom used to breed CKC poodles and was quiet impressed with your care and knowledgable towards dogs.

Alena, you have always been upfront and quick to respond to my pages of questions. You have always offered a lending hand with grooming, care and so much more, I wanted to say Thank you.

As I said before I'm really sorry things didn't work out towards the guardian home set up. We thought about it but really in the end we just wanted buy Logan out and have a spoiled neutered apartment pet not a breeding dog.

I did want to apologize for any misunderstandings over Logan and his diarrhea.

Our vet really had us believing it was an infected but I can't help but no realized vet clinic's make a living of of worried owners like us. In the end it did help I suppose as we know for sure nothing is wrong with him. I do believe I changed his food to soon, and have learned about poodles sensitive systems. I won't be doing that again.

Thank you for understating what we have been through and letting us buy out Logan. I am sorry you lost so much money on him but if it helps he is in a very good home, and we love him to pieces.

Sorry for any misunderstanding I can see you are a good hearted responsible breeder and I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone.
Julia
