I have had an impeccable payment history with Lane Bryant credit card for 18 months. I called and asked for a credit limit inrease and the representative put me on hold to review my account. He came back and said my payment history was great, but at this time they could not honor my request. I said ok and put it in the back of my mind. A few days later I received an alert that said they had made a hard pull on my credit. I am furious!!! This was not explained to me or authorized by me. When I called customer service to tell them about it they asked me to provide a copy of the report showing the inquiry and an explanation that is was not authorized. Ok, you have it in your records it was done, but the burden of proof lies with the victim. Possibly in 60 days it can be removed, but I feel that they will make an excuse continually and it will remain. This is no way to treat a loyal customer. You admit it is your mistake, but you won't fix it without me doing extra work. AWEFUL.

Hard credit pull...

Figure out which credit card you'll ask for a limit increase on. Why, aside from the obvious reason? Asking some credit card companies for a limit increase can cause the credit issuer to check your credit score, known in the business as a "hard pull."[2] A hard pull can cause your credit score to go down, only about five or 10 points. If your credit score is teetering on the edge of solvency, however, those 10 points can be very significant.
Unfortunately it looks like you may have authorized the hard pull when you asked for the limit increase. The rep should have mentioned it but you might want to be sure to ask they'll do a hard pull on any other cards you have before you ask them.
