Mentally and verbally abusive is right, but how about emotionally? Hmmmm....where do I begin? With the workplace bullying or the instability of management? I can go on and on.....First off, let me say this: I don't care if whoever reads this knows or thinks that they know who I am. I am speaking the truth and wish that I had nipped this company in the bud a long time ago. I could have sued for harrassment if I really wanted to, but I didn't, even though it would have been well deserved.

There are so many things that are wrong with this workplace. Any workplace that has these two elements, favoritism and nepotism, is a place that breeds chaos. Working at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York has made me realize just how evil and cult like people can really be. It has made me realize that having a strong work ethic does not matter as long as others see you as a threat or a target. 

When I first worked there I felt like i was on cloud nine. I knew that not everyone was my friend, but I thought that my fellow coworkers were cordial and worked as a team. Boy did they prove me wrong! For one, they are very petty and cult like. As soon as you make a mistake on something, big or small, they will magnetize it to the fullest extent and talk all kinds of sh*t about you behind your back. Either that or they will talk about you within ear shot of you in Spanish, among their peers because they know that you do not speak or understand it. Very unprofessional. Sometimes this would go on for hours...other times it would go on for just a few seconds. I wondered to myself if any of these individuals actually do their job or if they get paid to gossip. And don't show any signs of nervousness around them because they will use that as fuel to belittle you and spread gossip about you even more. I never understood how certain individuals were hired in the first place, let alone never got fired for being nasty. Nasty is an understatement. These people feed off of your anguish like vampires. 

The next step is that they would go out of their way to make you feel like YOU are unstable and defective mostly by passive aggressiveness. This is only the beginning of the harrassment. They would accuse me of pulling the wrong charts for the wrong doctor. (I knew better than that and the accusations went on more than once), They would then accuse me of disarranging the alphabetical order of the scheduled charts (how could i have disarranged the charts if i was not even there?). Basically to put a long story short, i was often isolated and made to feel like a worthless freak because the majority of the "workers" were in their little cliques. I went to the higher ups to try to resolve the conflict and my supervisor (LS) was there to complain about one co worker (SD) for whom she already had her own personal issues with. Because of this, that one coworker held a year long grudge on me all because she thought that I went to the boss to personally throw her under the bus.

The one that i really tried to put in the hot seat was this nasty witch, thats me being nice by the way, (LR) because she was the one who started the whole thing. She is a receptionist and behaves in a very uncouth manner. I'm sure one day it will backfire. Anyway, because of this drama, I was assigned to work on a different floor. 

Working on the other floor, I didn't really mind it because i was being productive and there was always work to do. 9 out of 10 times i was always busy. I had this coworker who was also a file clerk and was supposed to work with me as a team on splitting the work load. We got along for a while up until one day when I had more than enough charts to file and the work load began to overflow. He was going home and even told me personally that he had to leave at a certain time. I had no issue with this whatsoever. I called up my supervisor and asked her if she could send someone up to help me file because there was alot of charts to be filed. (The amount of charts were really multiplying rapidly). She immediately got upset and demanded to know where the other file clerk was. I told her that he was going home, i guess she saw him at that point and began to muffle the phone so i could not hear what she was saying. I don't know if she had forgotten that i was still on the phone but i hung up after a few minutes. Next thing i know, he comes back up and starts shouting at me like he wanted to fight me. He said "you know you didn't have to tell LS about the charts, it's not that serious!!! It's not that serious!!!' He would not listen to me or let me speak as he kept talking over me. From that point on, he became my enemy. I don't know what she could have said to him that made him suddenly go from Dr. Jeckyll to Mr. Hyde, but ever since that day he behaved like he was out to personally destroy me.

His whole attitude and demeaner changed whenever he was around me and became extremely bossy, sneaky and petty but he was nice and respectful to everyone else. He stopped filing as if it werent his job and would write and leave disrespectful notes for me to read, while he was walking around the office empty handed. This would go on a daily basis. He once flung a document for a chart at me and ordered me to go look for it. He was always up to mischief. He was absent so many times, and it was always on a Monday, Friday or a day after a three day weekend. I remember one Monday I was absent and my supervisor snapped at me (she always tries to humiliate me in front of the staff, it's never one on one) and demanded to know why I was out one Monday that he just so happened to be out. No joke. When he actually did show up he barely worked and would spend most of the day hiding out. And the thing that puzzled me the most was that in that office there are cameras on almost every crevice and corner but yet, they fail to see the things that their employees are doing. This "file clerk" is related to his aunt who is a nurse there. NEPOTISM. I also began to realize later on that he was the supervisors favorite because I once overheard her say that he was like a "son" to her. FAVORITISM.

This supervisor treated me, among the other file clerks like a donkey. Others noticed this and it encouraged disrespect towards me. She increased my work load to multiple different tasks just for the hell of it. She would always belittle me and get in my personal space when she was talking to me. I was treated like a slave. I was always filing the charts on the other floor because nobody else wanted to file. It really was not easy filing all those charts by myself with no help while I would often see other file clerks socializing and walking around the office like there was no work to do. Only two out of the seven file clerks would voluntarily help me, but then when my supervisor found out she scolded them and made them stay on a different floor. It didn't matter that i personally came to my supervisor a few times about me needing help with putting away the charts. They always had a great handful of file clerks but for some reason she would give me the most to do and give most of the other file clerks just papers to file or she would send some of them to the basement (where there are no cameras). Often times, a month before I quit, I was alone on the floor i was assigned to with no one to help me, while others were shredding papers for hours while watching TV. 

I noticed on more than one occasion that the supervisor would talk very badly about other employees. She would call them stupid behind their backs in a room full of billers and sometimes say racist things. There was once an incident where we (the file clerks) were told to stop talking to another employee (She was Chinese). Basically we couldn't even so much as say hello to her or stand anywhere near her. We asked why, and LS said that "we are the ones who will get in trouble not her. I guess she must be protected by the Chinese Gods". I stood there shocked while everyone else was laughing about it. I realized that she encourages this type of childish behavior. The fact of the matter is, she is in a position of power and the lower ranking people look up to her. She is supposed to set an example, not encourage gossip. I used to have respect for her but that was until I realized what kind of a person she is. Usually if someone is gossiping about others or making fun of others, then they wouldnt put it past talking about you when you are not around. She is a follower, not a leader. Childish and unprofessional. This woman is old enough to be a Grandmother. 

It's true what the previous employee said. If you are not related or favored, you do not get anywhere. I am no a*s kisser by any means and I do not have any relatives that work there. I am honestly surprised that I stayed as long as I did without knocking someone's teeth out. That environment makes you feel like you are in prison, except you have to wear all black instead of neon orange. I'm glad to say that I've finally moved on to another job. The salary is less, but i get more respect as a human being.

Future employees, keep your guard up and know your enemies.
