They called me about a debt. They kept saying they were the Law Office of John P. Frye even tho their call id only says Law Office JP.
They were rude, demanding, and threatening. They talked like that to anyone who'd answer the phone. So much for privacy.
They said they are in Roanoke, VA but what's there is a collection agency, Atlantic Credit and Finance, run by the Woolwine brothers, Kelly and Richard.
The actual law firm seems to be in Mechanicsville. I called to complain. Somehow they put me on the phone to Michael Katzen, who is Frye's partner.
Apparently Katzen does all of the lawyer work and Frye slums on debts.
I told Katzen he'd be looking at a bar complaint. If they're lawyers they're lawyers, if they're collectors, they're collectors. Which is which?
He said he'd take care of the misunderstanding.
And, he did. $500 to settle a $5,000 debt. No check by phone, any of that, they got a plain old check, sent with their FedEx account number.
So, if these people call you, forget the annoying collectors. Talk to the attorneys, specifically Katzen, as I never did get the man himself, Frye, on the phone.
They are scared of bar complaints. Keep that in mind.
