Two nights ago my older mother called up to me on the second floor to say someone was on the phone asking for "John" --- I thought it was odd because I only use my DC cell phone for calls and use her landline for my computer connection. A gentleman got on the phone and immediately asked if I had been sleeping (which was none of his business) and then proceeded to call me by an unknown last name --- I then told him that was not my last name --- he kept insisting and started to get angry and rude stating that was my last name. By then I was starting to get upset and asked who he was calling for, he named the law firm and I asked what he wanted, he said he wanted this John _____ whose last name was not mine. I kept trying to explain to him for a few minutes while he was yelling at me on the phone, I finally said this is ridiculous and told him never to call this number again, and to go to hell. I have worked for law firms for 25 years. I don't owe anybody anything and am not the person he was looking for. Today I received a letter from this law firm addressed to this unknown person --- I simply wrote "return to sender, no such person at this address" and I hope it is the end of it. But, in my opinion, this guy should be fired --- no one should be subjected to that type of treatment.

#4 REBUTTAL Individual responds
ATTORNEY IN GOOD STANDING FOR 29 YEARS
AUTHOR: Thomas - (United States)
SUBMITTED: Friday, October 19, 2018
Not sure what this person is complaining about as it occurred over 10 YEARS AGO and if it happened at all it was one of my employees that made the call. I had 20 employees making 50 collection calls a day. That is 250,000 CALLS A YEAR with only one complaint. My name is not even mentioned as the caller.
I have been an Attorney for 29 years in the Areas of Criminal defense, Divorce, Custody and Support. Feel free to call me directly for Referrals and my qualifications. Over the years I have had hundreds and hundreds of clients and this is the ONLY ONE COMPLAINING FROM 10 YEARS AGO!!
Very unfair and untrue. Thank you for your time. Thomas G. Landis, Attoeny 267-776-3005

C&D may be in order

If the collection activities don't stop, a cease and desist letter would be in order. You can find many templates and instructions on these letters online.
The worst case scenario is that this would force their hand and they would have to file a lawsuit, which would be filed against someone other than yourself, and you could basically wash your hands of the matter.
Best of luck!

Why?

Why did you even waste your time arguing.
"I am sorry you have the wrong number" once you heard the wrong last name was all that was needed.
I dont know to change it, my IE search defaults to Bing. Just from that "Law Office of Thomas Landis" is all complaints. I can only imagine what Google would show.
