Law Offices of Paul R. Stassinos California trebel damages for bad check rip off Fair Oaks, California

I received a letter  in June 2009, regarding a bounced check from the law office listed above asking for $$$$. I don't send everyone money unless its is owed and verified.  I tried calling, then I sent a letter to their PO BOX asking for information regarding the check.  I have not heard from them until today December 3rd, 2009, giving me one last chance to pay up or she will go to court.  Next to the term aggressive Webster's dictionary has this firms name.  I asked for information on the check and she started telling that I will either listen to her or she will sue me."  I asked for a copy of the check, verified that it was not paid by bank or directly to the payee, and then offered to pay the check plus reasonable collection costs. She said "ha, you are not going to tell me what to settle for because the law is on her side and she is entitled to treble damages, the original check value, collection fees, and court/attorney fees if she has to sue me.   She promptly hung up on me, then called me back in a few minutes to tell me that "I sound like a nice guy who made a mistake and that she will settle her $1600.00 claim for $1500.00 but only if I pay now and with a credit card." After a few more phone calls, where she read me the California law, did she say this check was from 2008, and that she will extend a week and forgive the original check amount, only pay the triple damages.  If I am presented with a bill I pay it, make arrangements to pay it, or deny it.  This lady neither properly presented the bill, did not respond in a reasonable time, waited, and then is calling and threatening me.....and then is offering me legal advice.
