My terrible experience with Legend Volkswagen Audi: (Amityville, NY dealership)
Do not make the mistake of trusting this VW dealership in Amityville. I gave it the lowest rating possible because I was lied to and was promised something first and made the mistake of trusting that Alan would follow through and he did not. Once I signed the paperwork, Alan did not fulfill his promise to me, and now I am out a lot of money. I will describe in detail exactly what happened to me personally, but if you only have a quick minute to glance at the negative ratings, DO NOT BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF FROM THIS DEALERSHIP LIKE I WAS. I wish I had read all the negative reviews before I signed up.
I'll try to explain my problem as quickly as possible since there are many negative reviews already, and I am laid up recuperating from major surgery, so I am not physically able to give you every single detail. However I have been in touch with Victoria the manager at VW many times over this issue and still nothing was done to help me.
I had a prior lease that was up for renew or to return. I was going to lease another type of vehicle but received information that was very disturbing to me. A VW person came out to inspect the car and came up with a lot of small damages to my car. I thought the exact amount was $1500, but when I called that department directly I was told I had to pay alittle over $1700. When the guy gave me the bill he told me if I go back and lease another VW car they might absorb some of the fees. I called up and was told that was correct and to come in.
I met with Alan and told him I had to lease another car soon because I was going to undergo a very difficult surgery. I told him I was only interested in leasing another Jetta if he could absorb the fee. Of course I would have like the entire fee absorbed because I felt the fee was grossly overstated, but he said he could definitely get most of it absorbed. I asked specifics. He told me he automatically can get 33% off just by calling them on the phone, and that in his experience he has always been successful in getting another 33% off on top of that.
He tried calling that department immediately but the employee was new and Alan said he was unprofessional and he was going to even report the guy for not being able to help him immediately. We need the information right away since it was contingent on my signeing the new lease. His manager came over and agreed with Alan that they could get the additional amount over the initial 33% off.
I was under a lot of stress since I was worried about my upcoming surgery. Also the prior lease was under my brother's name. The new lease was to be under my name. Alan told me to sign the papers and he would call and get it all done for me while I was undergoing my surgery. He was a great salesman. He explained in great detail about all the people he knew who had the same procedure and where now fine...how could I not believe him?
Well I signed the papers under the assumption he would do as he promised. Right after my surgery my brother told me the corporate office had been calling him saying that the fee had to be paid or it would negatively effect his credit rating. I called twice and left two messages with Alan about it, but he never returned my phone calls. I emailed the manager Victoria multiple times and was told she would relay the messsage to Alan. No one ever called!!!!
I called the corporate office and was told unless I wanted my brother's credit to be effected by this I would have to pay right away with them and they said to call the dealership who made the promises to reimburse me for what I had to pay.
I figured I wanted a quick resolution to this issue so I contacted Victoria the manager with documentation that I was only asking for $1200 of the full $1700 fee reimbursed to me and I would have been very happy that in the end, even though I had to do a lot of work while I am laid up from my surgery, in the end, the important thing was that they honored their promise, especially since I was only asking for $1200 of the money back. I know in my heart, I am being more than fair.
Instead of hearing back that they would honor their promise and do the right thing, I was emailed by Victoria that she would tell Alan again. That is of no help for me. I am out all that money and would never have leased another vehicle from them without that fee being "mostly" absorbed.
I learned my lesson. When a salesperson, Alan says trust me I will get it done for you, I should have said I'll wait to see before signing the papers. Again, I only had to sign the papers immediately since I had the surgery coming up and didn't have time to wait, and Alan knew that...
Trust is a huge deal in the car industry. I personally will never trust this dealership again and I wish I could turn in my lease right now and lease from a dealership that I could trust.
