On May 12, 2009 at about 1:45 pm, my wife and I decided to try and get rid of an old ring set she had from her first marriage, and my gps guided me to the doors of Lev's Pawn shop. We entered the establishment and saw that they appeared to have many used goods that were, in my opinion, very overpriced. We approched the counter and a younger gentlemen and ask how muck we could get out of the wedding ring set( Originally priced over 1000 dollars 10 years ago), and without even inspecting them in a thorough fashion whatsoever he gave a look of annoyance and said that it would be very little money.

While he was dealing with my wife on inspecting them,I scoped out the other rings in the store and saw that all of them were priced very high and a majority of them were less valuable then the set we were trying to sell. I told my wife we should leave because I felt we would do better selling them using other sources. I told the gentlemen that thier markup was quite ridiculous and I should report them. I began making my way to the door, with my 18 month old son in my arms, when another gentlemen, presumely the owner or manager, tells me "Don't let the door hit you in the a**". I Felt this was very unproffesional and I really didn't want my son exposed to such language. I really don't know how places like this stay in business when they treat their potential customers in such a way and I really feel there should be some repurcusions for such places.

When you have an item that you own and want to sell and you go to a Pawn Broker to sell it. You are asking another person for money. You are going to them, when asking another person for money for an item you shouldn't get mad when asking cause you may not like their answer. Who would have you reported them to. Any retailer has a right to price what ever they think an item is worth or what another person will pay for it. General mark up at a Jewelry Store is 90 to 100 percent if not more. Pawnshop try to be about 40% cheaper than retail. Also a Pawn Shop doesn't know how long it will take to profit on their investment. It could take months to years to sell that item. For instant cash a Pawn Shop is great and may be your only source. Luckily with all the "Refineries" out there now and how high gold is, is also another source for instant cash. Be weary of MIDDLE MEN places that say we buy scrap gold. They are also giving you a percentage of what the gold is worth. They are not considering the design which a Pawn Shop will take into consideration and may pay more for if it is an attractive design. Yes at the end what they said to you is unprofessional.Yet you saying you were going to report them is out of line. Hence their comment, if you thought that you should have just took your business elsewhere. With my comment about used jewelry do not expect to get close to what you paid for it, remember the NEW mark Percentages and the Pawn Brokers Discount. They have to give you the proper percentage of the item so they can make money on the Item and the Buyer walking through the door gets a good if not fair deal.
