While checking our Verizon bill we noticed added Miscellaneous charges that I never authorized. I immediately called Verizon, who in turn, gave the the telephone number of the charge source. I called the company, Websource Media who does marketing on telephone for online & web hostin services and played back a verification of one of my employees voice giving address and telephone info which sounded very spliced together.

MY employee said she gave the info for them to send their info to me but when asked if she was authorized to agree to the terms, she said she was not. She is a part time shampoo person who ionly comes in when needed. There is no way she would agree to these services as she is so CP illiterate by choice. The taped sounded very spiced together. She also only spoke to a live person - no recording. Verizon took the charges off and put a block on my phone services against them.

But the company, WEb source Media LCC, Liberty Online Services and WEbpoint USA would not credit my billing. They will have to bill me directly, and I will not let this go. I am writing here to warn people against this telemarketing slamming and I will go to the FCC and anyone else I can find so other people will be made aware of the slamming by these companies. Beware........

Lying with no conscience

AUTHOR: Erica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 12, 2005

My experiance is pretty much exactly like the one that Jenny from Indianapolis, Indiana submitted. I received a call from a man who said that my supervisor had requested a password from him and that he needed to give it to me so I could pass it on to my supervisor. Since my supervisor was out to lunch, I had no way of knowing if he had indeed requested this information or not. The man told me that he was from Web Point and for security purposes I would have to answer automated questions such as my name, address, fax number, etc. I kept insisting that he go into my supervisor's voicemail where he could give so called requested password, but he ensured me that it didn't work like that and that he needed to give this very important password. After answering a few of the questions the recording said something along the lines of me having placed an order and that in order to cancel I would have to call a number. I realized that it was a scam and hung up. He called right back and said he was sorry that we got disconnected and to finish answering yes to the last question. I told him that we didn't get disconnected, but that I hung up because I'm not interested. He insisted that he wasn't selling anything and that he just wanted to give me a password. I hung up. He called about five times and after that and since we have caller ID I just kept picking up and hanging up without answering. Finally, someone else in our firm picked up. I ran to her office and explained the situation. She told him to stop calling and he called back again, this time much more aggressive and shouting at her. She told him to stop shouting at her and to stop calling. That was the last we heard from the company. I can't imagine that people that do this as a living can go home at night feeling very good about themselves. Very sad.

Was just called by Webpoint USA this morning.

AUTHOR: Christi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 01, 2004

I was just called by Webpoint USA this morning. They had contacted our company yesterday also. Both times they said they had a sample website set up for our company and wanted our fax number to send over information for our manager to review it. Yesterday I told the lady we were not interested that we have our own website already and she proceeded to argue with me. I simply hung up. Today I received a call from a gentleman who started with the same line. I told him the manager was out of the office and asked for a phone number where the manager could call him back. He told me that he could not give out information until he received our fax number and the website was reviewed. I placed him on hold and he hung up. I then got online and looked up their website and called the following number and he the customer service representative remove our number from their call list. He said he was sorry for any inconvenience this caused us and that he would put a block on our number as we spoke. He was very polite and I hope he follows through with his response. The number I called to have our number removed was 800-715-5115. Call this number and choose option #4 to speak to a representative to have your number removed also. Best of luck and hope this helps.

They got me

AUTHOR: Diana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 16, 2004

I have been getting calls from this place 3 and 4 times a week for quite a while. I finally got fed up and told the guy that and I wanted to be removed from their list. We weren't interested and never would be interested. Then the exact same thing Jenny from Indianapolis reported happened to me.

I was also told I'd have to go through the automated questions to have myself removed from their system. Only difference was I was dumb enough to answer yes to the final question. Though the guy assured me repeatedly this is what had to be done to be removed, it might sound like I was authorizing the service but I really wasn't. He told me this 3 or 4 times. I questioned that when he started asking specific questions about our business - information they should only need for a website. I refused to answer those.

The day after canceling I got yet another solicitation call from them. I was abruptly hung up on after I said I had just went through the process to have our name removed. I called them back and told them I wanted to make sure I hadn't signed up for the service rather than have myself removed like I was told I was doing. I had myself removed for the 2nd time, no automated questions this time around. Then, I receive a "Welcome" letter in the mail over the weekend. Great.

I've since tried to access the website as directed in the letter, it doesn't work, so hopefully the cancellation went through. I will call them by the end of the week to make sure, within the 15 days, to avoid any charges. They haven't called in a few days now.

BEWARE. Do not go through the solicitor that called you to be taken off their list. I went to the main website [DELETED] and called a customer service number listed there to be removed and spoke to someone who actually has English as their first language, no automated questions.

Oh, and the kicker, they totally butchered the spelling of our company name so the web address is also a different spelling than our company name. Our own customers couldn't find this web site if they tried based on the spelling.

Just got a call from these people

AUTHOR: Jenny - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 12, 2004

I just got a call from these people. To begin with, the man was very rude. I told him repeatedly that we were not interested. I told him that I would not agree to authorize anything. He then said that he just wanted to send information, via fax, to my manager, that if we were not interested, we wouldn't have to do anything, that there would be no obligation. He verified our name, address, etc., and told me that he would be putting me through to an automated system, and that I would need to answer these questions in order to have our information "removed from their system". He then told me to answer "Yes" to the final question, because they needed to verify that "my manager or owner was over 18, which I'm sure they are, right?" Those were his exact words.

Well, to start with, the automated system made it clear that he was lying, that this company was going to set up a website, and if we didn't want it, we had to cancel within 14 days, or we would start being charged. Then, when the last question was asked, it was, "Are you over 18, and authorized to incur charges on this phone bill?" So, I said, "No." Well, this guy gets back on the phone, and proceeds to get really nasty with me.

He said, "I told you that you have to answer 'Yes' to the final question, and you said no." So I explained that I had told him that I wasn't interested, that we already have a website that we are very happy with, that I was not authorized to make charges to the phone account, and that he lied to me, because he stated that he just wanted to send us information, and that if we weren't interested, we didn't have to do anything at all. However, the recorded message clearly stated that they would be setting up a website, faxing us the information, and that if we didn't cancel within the 14 day free trial period, charges would start being added to our phone bill. Then he starts telling me that I'm confused, that he told me they meant my manager on that last question, that the website would automatically cancel if we didn't order within 14 days, etc.

I told him I wasn't agreeing to anything on behalf of my manager, that what he was telling me, and what the automated system was saying were two entirely different things, and that since I was the only one in the conversation for whom English was a FIRST language, I was willing to bet that I wasn't the least bit confused. I then made it clear again, that we were NOT interested in their services, that they were NOT authorized to set up this website, and that if we were contacted by them again, I was going to report them to "Call6" which is a consumer advocacy run by one of the television stations in my area.

Irresponsible Consumers

AUTHOR: Lawrence - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 08, 2003

I am a former Customer Service Supervisor with WebPoint USA/Websource Media, LLC. I must first say that they are not affiliated in anyway with Liberty Online. When I was a supervisor there I dealt with these type of complaints more times that I would have liked to. I'd first like to say that I am no longer affiliated with this company in anyway but I do have a view of how the company operates. I noticed that the complaintant points out the recording. I can honestly say that WebPoint/Websource does not have physical access to any of the recordings that they play. These recordings are done by a third party verification source and can only be accessed by WebPoint/Websource by calling a phone number and inputting the customer's phone number and then the audio can be heard. The verification that they use or at least the one they used while I was there was very clear as to what their terms of sale were. It clearly begins with this is being recorded to confirm your understanding of our offer. It advises that a website would be created within 24 hours. It goes on to state that it's a 15 day trail period. It also advises to the customer that to avoid any billing that they must call the customer service number provided in the recording. It also tells the customer about the one time set up fee and monthly fee. It also ask if the customer is over 18 and authorized to incur charges to the phone account. They also have a Quality Control department that reviews each of the recordings and if the customer states no they are not authorized or if they state that they are not 18, then the order is rejected. Follow up information is also sent out either via email, fax, or to the physical address, which is provided by the customer that again states the above terms and conditions and it also gives the site address and other information regarding that site. Most customers are irresponsible or don't take the offer seriously. When it's so easy to say you were wronged by a company just becuase you failed to follow through as instructed is not fair.
