To Whom It May Concern:

This is my resignation from GEICO Insurance affiliate/ Life Quotes. Per our conversation, I want to restate my opinion of your appalling business tactics. Let me first summarize my complaints:
1.      You stated in your advertisement for the sales position that it pays '$23 per hour'. THIS IS COMPLETELY MISLEADING. The real pay is '$23/ hour of Talk Time', of which on any given shift an agent is working, 'talk time' is usually only half of the time worked. For example, if I work a 8 hour shift (of which I must be logged in and in front of the computer for 8 hours), I on average will only be 'talking' approximately 4 hours, of which I receive $23/ hour.  So the real pay is approximately $11 hour.
Why do you not advertise the position stating this fact? Are you hiding this very important fact? Is this a bait and switch tactic?

2.      In addition, to receive the '$23/ hour of talk time' an agent must also achieve 3 different 'ratios' (submissions ratio, talk time ratio, issued ratios).  Now, if only one of these 'ratios' are not met, an agent does not receive his or her '$23/ of talk time' OR any commissions earned! THIS IS NOT CLEAR IN THE CONTRACT AND WAS NOT CLEARLY COMMUNICATED TO ME BEFORE I SIGNED UP. For example, an agent can work a 2 week shift, work 40-80 hours on average, sell 'X' amount of policies and receive $00.00 at the end of the pay period!  This is completely absurd.
How can you expect people to work for 2 weeks, then find out at the end of the 2 weeks they will not receive ANYTHING???  Why is this very critical point not emphasized in the contract? And why was this not clearly communicated to me?  Again, are you trying to hide something? Do you not think that knowing this fact would be a decisive factor for an agent considering the position?

I can honestly say that had I known this, I definitely would not have signed up and invested over $1,000.  In addition, I had tried to address this issue, and have email documentation, with upper management, including CEO Bob Bland and President Drew Gregory, and my issues would not be directly addressed. Each time the issue was diverted and I would not receive a direct answer.

GEICO Insurance affiliate/ Life Quotes is able to get away with this because most agents, like myself, need to invest approximately $1,000 to obtain various state licenses to start the program. Obviously, after investing such a large sum of money, an agent is committed to the program, although critical points of the pay plan stated above are NOT made aware to the agent until AFTER the investment is made!  This puts the agent in an uncompromising position, as you can image.

I have wasted over month of work (of which I have sold over $20,000 in annual premium!) and wasted an investment of over $1,000, due to your lack of transparency and unethical practices and now I have almost nothing to show for it. I think your business practices are appalling and it is amazing to me that a reputable company like GEICO, whom I personally have auto insurance with, would knowingly participate in the these unethical, bait and switch business tactics. Furthermore, I would think the public would be just as appalled, especially under the current economic environment, to learn that a household name company like GEICO would be involved in such practices. I am sure that the Insurance Commissioner's Office of Maryland and Illinois would also be very interested in your business practices, as well as the insurance companies you represent such as Transamerica, Genworth, MetLife, Lincoln Financial, etc

I would hope now that you would think it would only be fair and reasonable to reimburse me of my $1,000 investment and commissions on all the policies I have written and sold, of which I am the writing agent on, and the $23 per hour of the hours I have worked.  Further, I suggest you change your job advertisements so no one in the future needlessly has goes through the same ordeal.

To Bob Bland - Life Quotes

AUTHOR: dgold88 - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Hi Bob,

Sure, go ahead and show your books. More importantly, as I note you love mentioning the original contract signed, would you please find in it where it states I might work a 20-30 hour week, bring in new business, and because I didn't meet a metric get paid nothing.

I'm a good guy, Bob, and do give to my fair share of charities, but never thought I'd be donating my time to Life Quotes to enhance your wallet.

I think I've been gone close to 2.5 years now. How many different pay plans have you gone through since then (none of which match the original contract)? I'll guess 14.

David Goldie

listen be afraid of this guy he is a bad a** and he will come after you for posting on here...he defends his scam on here... he did me...A few years back I complained on here after being ripped off for my hard earned money and now I think I was talking to him and not a case action lawyer...remember he's got it going on with all that money he took from ALL us agents, leaving us completely broke and upsidedown and after he bleeds you death for months in fees and licensing...it is the worst scam ever...and it leaves you with a pit in your stomach because he makes you work hard for months only to rip you off for the commisions paid out by the carriers...he is doing this knowing we (the agents) have no one ABSOLUTELY NO ONE supporting us insurance agents (we are no bodies),  while this guy just screws over one agent after another after another... mine was almost 3 years ago... he made me homeless...I was licensed in 30 states so you can only imagine the investment I was into... so be careful what you say...I got a phone call after posting on here....and they told me they were getting a class action lawsuit and he was a lawyer for me to help me and and he was asking me questions about the scam, but I never heard back from anyone... so I am guessing it was actually Bob I was talking to...LOL LOL so be afraid of what you post on here...he is watching and waiting to defend his scam...he made me homeless...

Life Quotes is a Scamming Employees/ Agents

AUTHOR: Beth - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Mr Bob Bland..I am responding to your most recent post of March 2013.  My name is Beth and I am an ex employee.  And...yes...you company is engaging in unfair practices.

It is obvious you have breached employemnt contacts and likely are engaging in activities that are in violation of minimum wage guidelines and IRS guidelines.  Sooner or later this will will catch up with you.

You have scammed dozens, if not hundreds of employees.  Please note when I say employees, these agents are employees, not the independent contractors you make them out to be.

I can be contacted at (((email redacted))).  Please note I am not able to attend to this email on a regualr basis, but do try to attend to it once every week or two.

I will be happy to send to any ex employee or current employee information and/ or forms to complain about the practices of Life Quotes...i.e. Bob Bland.  Sooner or later we will be heard and things will change/

Life Quotes

AUTHOR: dgold88 - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 06, 2013

As an ex-employee of Life Quotes, I would like to reply to you, Mr. Bland. If you want to cling to the idea your original contract states an agent is paid $23/hour for talk time, so be it. I wouldn't imply it is stated clearly, but I suppose it gets a mention.

Now I have not been employed by LQ since September of 2011, so it is likely you've gone through a dozen or so new payment models, but I was wondering where in my original contract it mentioned the fact an agent could put in a 20 hour workweek (or more), bring in new policies on your behalf, have previous policies go paid, yet be paid nothing for his/her services?

I am not making this up. Very often, agents would work an entire week, bring in money for Mr. Bland and lifequotes, and earn $0 for their efforts. Since very few (if any) agents want to work for free, he/she is forced to quit or is terminated. When this happens, of course, LQ then gets the full commission from any policy this agent brought to the company.

Let's get back to original question I posed, as I wouldn't want you to evade the question....where in my original contract (or anyone's for that matter) does it state I coulkd work an entire week for you, bring in business for lifequotes, and not be paid?

Life Quotes CEO Responds

AUTHOR: Robert Bland - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, March 04, 2013

Dear Anonymous, My name is Bob Bland.  I'm founder and CEO of Life Quotes, Inc.  I'm using my real name here, and hope you will, too.  I'm responding to your negative post about our company and also objecting to your use of the word GEICO in any reference to us, which is a violation of the privacy Agreement you signed when you were hired or appointed as an Outside Agent.  Our company is 29 years old this month and we are successful and debt-free, having built a large book of satisfied term life customers over the years, now nearing 300,000.  We have no agenda to underpay employees or independent contractors and so I'd be happy to open and audit of any of our pay practices to you at any time.  No past employee or independent contractor has any financial claim against us nor has one ever made such a claim and so I am anxious to address yours as soon as possible.  In fairness to my employees and independent agencies, I will then make public here the results of my audit, but I can again tell you that you have already violated the terms of your privacy agreement and released illegal, confidential inside information by using the word GEICO in the same sentence or reference to us.  I have reviewed our past ads directed towards independent agents and I find that all of them clearly speall out that the beginning pay for our phone agents was, in 2010, $23 per hour of actual talk time.  Nowhere in any ad or in the Agreement that you signed does it promise to pay $23 per hour of time not worked.  Extra bonus pay based upon placement ratios is very common in the life insurance business and we use those incentives in our contracts as well.  Again, please identify yourself as I have here and I will be happy to personally audit the ad you responded to, the Agreement you signed and our past pay ledgers to you to see if an error was made.  Sincerely, Bob Bland, Founder and CEO.

You must be kidding me...can you read at all?

AUTHOR: Godswarrior - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Having seen the advertisement for the Life Quotes Outside Agent Program online myself and reading it and the accompanying 20 + pages of information that you get when you pass the online apptitude test, I am amazed that you would come here (of all places) to denigrate this company for "misleading" you!  Not only is every last detail of the compensation plan very clearly outlined in the materials, they even give you example scenarios of how the commission + submission pay + $23/hr FOR TALK TIME is paid out.  I have never seen so much detail in an Agent package in my life and I have been appointed with dozens and dozens of insurance carriers as an Independent Agent.  The fact that you had to spend the money to get licensed in the Top 10 States (based on population #'s) is a benefit to YOU.  You now can sit at your computer and phone, using Life Quotes system and money to flood you with 100% fresh leads all day long.  You said you wrote enough business to equate to $20,000 premiums in your short time with them (1 Month!)  What the heck are you quitting for?  At that pace, after a year with them, you're looking at $75k a year in compensation!  The $23/hr for "talk time" in the first 60 days is to get you immediate income (which will more than cover your licensing fees and incidentals) while you ramp up and get in the groove to close your cases.  There is not another plan like this anywhere in the industry man.  I think if you were smart...you would get your butt back to work with them somehow (grovel...apologize...beg) and give it a year.  Even if it was everything you say it is (which you and I know it is not...they clearly define their program offering and go over it again and again and in writing and when you are doing your training with them too), its more money than you are going to make in your life doing anything else that you are qualified to do AT THIS TIME in our economy...AND, you already spent the money to get your 10 States Insurance licenses to boot...(oh, those fees are a 100% business write-off for a 1099 Independent Contractor Agent also).

So, suck it up...call your manager and tell them you had a brain fart in a big way and get your butt back to work.

Just saying...
