I emailed Liquid Talent with my information to be considered for representation. I received an email stating "there is a nominal $25 fee for a one-on-one meeting just to ensure all parties honor their commitments once made" I responded telling them I have had agency representation in Hollywood and never had to pay any upfront fees. I do not know for sure, but I have heard in some states it is illegal for agencies to ask for fees upfront. If they did their research, they should be able to determine who is professionl, reliabe talent, without resporting to "commitment" fees.
Whether or not this is illegal, it's crazy for them to expect someone that lived and worked in the capital of the entertainment industry to pay them a penny for what should most certainly be free.

I was not going to bother responding to the rebuttal, but I think I owe it to the people out there that are just starting out to warn them about "businesses" like Liquid.
I find it amusing that the fact I was a working actress in Hollywood is being used as a negative against me. I was born in Richmond, Virginia and I worked in Virginia and surrounding states for many years before moving to and working in Texas, and California. So, Virginia is not a "new" market as was assumed. In none of these places was I ever asked to pay money just for an interview. They can keep saying this is standard practice, but that doesn't make it so. It may not be illegal, but it is certainly not ethical, standard, or necessary.
I was never invited to any free open call, that is not true. That claim was made after I already made my complaint. No one needs to take just my word for it, any simple internet search will yield many other industry professionals stating that it is never okay for a so-called "agency" to ask for money upfront for a meeting.
I have been working for years, and know what to avoid. Those just starting out don't have that knowledge yet, so I hope I can save at least one person out there from getting taken advantage of.
I would be happy to answer any questions of anyone out there that's just starting out in the industry and is in need of information or advice

The individual filing this report is not represented by my agency and is clearly not providing the extent of the entire operation of the business. There is nothing illegal about the practice, and as she purports, she is from "Hollywood" which is a differnt market than Virginia. She is not a known quantity, and subsequently, while she was offered an opportunity to meet with the directors of our organization, has chosen a different path. As with any professional consultation, we do charge a nominal fee for an upfront meeting. Some agencies charge upwards of $100 for the same. However, there are no fees for building a profile/website. There are no yearly roster fees. Did she inquire to such? Of couse not. Did she ask other agenices of such practices? That is a great question that remains unanswered. And anyone interested in begin considered but not wanting to pay the nominal fee for a service provided can bring materials to an open call which is held several times during the year. I would say to anyone interested in Liquid to contact me directly for discussion of any concerns. It is unfortunate that this individual who was seeking to operate in a new market feels the need to provide half truths in a world that is already suspect enough. Do your homework and contact your sources directly.
