Lon Smith Roofing Sales Rep Travor Terrell measured my home for a new roof and presented a contract for $3676.00.  After we reviewed the contract and both agreeing on the price we both signed the contract on 07/14/09.  After work started I was contacted by Travor stating that there was a measurement problem and an inspected from Lon Smith (Rolando Silva) would be out to re-measure.  Rolando arrived re-measured and informed me that the measurements were wrong and it would be double the price from $3676 to $6000 or $7000.  This is after the roofer had already tore off the original roof that I was informed of the change.   I contacted the sales rep Travor and he said he would check into it. I did not receive any phone except the accounts payable rep ( Kelly) wanting all my insurance claims information.  The roof was completed in 1 day and no one contacted me, I did notify my insurance company of the contract dispute.  On 08/26/09  i received a fax copy of the final invoice for $4180.00 I contacted  acct.payable ( Kelly) and discuss the invoice and agreed on the $4180 amount.  I draw a cashiers check for the agreed amount and enclosed a copy of the invoice marked paid in full.  I call Kelly and informed her that the check was being mailed on 09/08/09 and she would contact me when it was received.  I never got call and I called twice and left messages and she never called. I contacted the bank and was informed that the check was cashed on 09/10/09. On morning of 09/10 - at 07:43am  i received a fax copy of yet another invoice for $6950.13 from business office rep (JoAnn Headland). I faxed this information for my insurance company.  After arriving home in the evening i received a letter with the same information and an letter asking me to sign and return an ok to request an additional $2770.13.  I have tried to contact there offices and conveniently there phones have been out for 2 days.  So my complain that Lon Smith Roofing is trying to defraud me and my insurance company.  I agreed on the lowers bid $3676 they raised it to $4180 and then to $6950.13  seems for fraud to me.

How much did your insurance company say the roof would cost?

AUTHOR: Roofing contractor - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 24, 2009

Is your adjusters summary in the $6900 range? If it is then it's just poor estimating and poor management on Lon Smith's part not fraud. If your insurance company agrees that the roof should cost close to the same then you have your answer. My guess is that it was a bidding and billing mistake not fraud, not many roofs can be replaced these days for $3676, most material bills are that much.
