We need to replace a few windows and were acquiring estimates on the small project and the cost of replacing all of the windows in our house at once. On my quest for a third and final estimate, I contacted Long Windows through their web page and requested a free in-home estimate. A few minutes later I received a call from a woman to schedule our estimate. She asked for the address and other details and then asked if there was a Mr. and asked for his name.
On to the scheduling portion, I mentioned that my husband is not available for these appointments and that the decision making is in my hands. The girl told me they required him to be here during their visit. I told her that wasn't going to happen and that I was fully capable of this. She reiterated her previous statement. Becoming frustrated, I chose to end the call, telling the woman this just wasn't going to work.
I have never been so insulted by a company I was patronizing. Previous estimates from far larger, well-known companies did not require, nor even mention, such requirements. I feel as though my stating that his attendance was not required is the only bit of information they needed to proceed with the scheduling. Instead, I am left insulted and belittled. Were it my husband who made the request and was on the phone, would they insist that I be present?
I have drafted and sent a letter to their corporate offices and will be obviously going with another company, for which I will contact, not my husband and I will be present for future correspondence, not my husband and for whom I will write the check, not my husband.
I will happily pay more money for excellent service. I will not tolerate being made to feel worthless by any being or company.

I went one step further and scheduled an appointment for a free quote thinking that my wife would be available. When the appointment came around she was sick and not in the mood to hear about windows. I told the salesman, who was friendly enough, and he said he would tell me a few things but he could not give the full presentation without my wife present.
Assuming he was bluffing, I played along and went through the initial interview about what I was looking for, liked, didn't like, etc... After about 30 minutes he asked if my wife would be joining us. When I said she would not, he asked to reschedule. I told him this would be his only opportunity to sell me his windows.
That was that and he kindly packed his bag and left. Once again he offered to reschedule or offer any advice or assistance he could in the future, whether or not we purchased from Long Windows. Again, he was respectful, but the policy of Long Windows is ridiculous.
A representative from Long Windows called a few hours later to ask how things went and then if I would like to reschedule. Again I answered no. The experience was too much like other sales pitches I have endured where all I got was a lot of hot air and a high pressure offer to purchase a very overpriced product. If their windows are so good, they deserve a lot better sales tactics!
