I received the following message on voicemail the day after I made a Craig's listing, which fits the pattern of previous complaints about the organization. I tried the number and apperently it is disconnected, but be aware that if you get a similar message it is more than likely a scam.
"Hi my name is Jacob Reed and I am calling because I see your selling your vehicle. I work for Longwood Incorporated and the number here is 866 326 0950. The reason I'm calling is because we're a 501(c)(3) company
we match buyers and sellers of cars together and i think we have some people who are interested in your vehicle, so give me a call
again my number is 866 326 0950 and my name is Jacob. Have a great day"

Actually....

Actually, how they acquire potential customers information is illegal and in violation of Cragslists TOS/TOU. As well as Kijiji's, Auto Traders, and other websites. Especially when the ad states that the poster of said ad is not to be contacted about other goods or services.
Also, calling cell phones, calling phones and using pre recorded messages, is a violation of FTC, FCC and 501c3 status. 501c3 status companies must make live person calls, not use an auto dialing system that hangs up on you if you answer your phone when they call.
Granted, they may be able to charge you for services rendered, but how they get your information, contact their potential customers, and their general conduct is far from legal. Also, their BBB reputation is to be avoided. 131 complaints in 36 months with a C rating.
Consumer beware.

I too have received phone calls from Longwood, Inc. However, being a Tax Preparer, I took the time to verify whether these folks are truly registered as a tax exempt organization and they are. I notice many complaints around the web calling this place a "rip off" or "scam", but they appear legitimate to me!
Go to www.irs.gov to do your search for a 501 (c) (3) organization if you are uncertain as to whether you are donating to a true charity. Here's the other link to the search site: http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=96136,00.html
Also, please remember that if you were to utilize the services of these folks selling a vehicle or other item for you, it is not considered a tax deductible "contribution". You must not be provided any goods or services in order for any cash or property donations to be deductible.
There is nothing that prevents people from making money by calling people who advertise on Craigs List, even if it is annoying to receive the phone calls.
