Beware.....when attempting to purchase a puppy from Lori Hoover of Hoover Acres, I put down $150 non-refundable deposit on the puppy. I asked many questions. I also called AKC to verify that she was the actual breeder and found out that she is not even listed as the breeder for the puppy I was planning to purchase. According to Lori she is the "co-breeder" whatever that means.
The actual breeder name is Elmer Miller of Lagrange, Indiana. Lori was only the middleman for a breeder who was obviously not taking good care of his puppy parents. I went to my vet to find out more about buying a puppy and when he found out I was purchasing a puppy from Indiana, he said to ask them to show proof of rabies vaccinations for the parents. By asking this, I would at least know that the puppy's parents were being seen by a vet and were reasonably healthy. He said there are many puppy mills in Indiana and the Amish are well known to run these mills.
I asked Lori to please provide me with a picture of the rabies tags and documentation that the parents had been properly vaccinated. She told me that she would get me the information the next day. The next day I heard nothing back, so I texted Lori at 3pm to see is she was able to obtain the requested documentation. Again I was put off by some excuse. This went on for several days. She seemed very concerned as to why I wanted proof of rabies tags and documentation and said that she has been a "breeder" for 20 years and no one has ever asked for this information.
15 days later after requesting the rabies documentation on the parents, still she did not/could not produce. She said she asked for them but hadn't heard back yet. 15 days.....and still nothing. Amazingly, Lori texted me back saying that she probably would not be able to obtain the rabies information by the time the puppy would be ready to go to new home which was 3 weeks away! Surprise, surprise, Lori offered to refund me my "non-refundable" deposit of which I did accept and she did refund to me. Moral of story.....Do Not buy from Lori Hoover or Elmer Miller unless they can provide health proof of the parents of the puppy you are buying.

I bought a Doberman from Lori almost 3 years ago. She is a terrific dog. Absolutely no health issues. She is beautiful, loyal, smart and energetic. Everything she is supposed to be. I placed my deposit and she sent me weekly pictures of my beautiful Tia. I had a great experience with Lori and Hoover Acres. Tia was a great addition to our family.

Listen ppl..I have dealt with Lori Hoover for nearly 3 years now.I adopted Lassie n Nobels girl puppy a beautiful sheltie through Lori Hoover n not had any health issues or problems with Ms Hoover. But seriously ppl Please do your homework. Call n talk to the breeder first, ask about the breed you are interested in.about temperament, health heredity issues. Then go visit as Lori said in her message. Is the place clean n orderly? Ask about to see parents if available, sometimes they will ship the female to the studs owner n have her bred. Ask questions ,questions ,questions!! Above all please do consider that a puppy n your future dog is equal to having a toddler around. They need to be potty trained, learn basics canine manners,Daycare( yes dog day care) vet visits, etc just like a toddler. Also some breeds do not do well in stressful situations such as the sheltie,so please evaluate your living situation..The Bordercollie very intelligent n high energy will not do well in a home where is kenneled for 8-10 hours a day. And Roxanne what you said about Ms Hoover just goes to prove that you are a insolent person with very little intelligence n need to do your homework better..Most vets will tell you to ask for paperwork for the parents n is included when you receive your pup n also can be asked for while you visit.Never heard of a vet tell you to ask for proof of rabies tag. Lori Hoover will not sell you a defective dog n they come with a 1 year health guarantee. And she is always on hand to provide support n answer your important questions in a timely manner.

Seriously! complaining about me giving your deposit back to you

Roxanne, I sent you weeks worth of pictures of the pup you were interested in and also replied back to you in a timely manner everytime you had a question or concern. I gave you my co-breeders name, I gave you AKC numbers to the parents, my vets information and anyting you asked for. Rabies are done every 3 years and I didnt give you the rabie tag number as fast as you would have liked. I did however go through Gall Bladder surgery so was a little preoccupied but still tried to answer all your questions and concerns. I felt that even if I gave you this piece of unnneccassy informaiton that the next day it would be something else. So I offered to give your deposit back to you and you accepted.
I really feel that you are being unfair and unjust for reporting this the way you have. You are being untruthfull and streching the truth a bit. You made assumtions that the parents of the pups were unhealthy because of not knowing their rabie tag number. True there are puppy mills all over the United States but because their are some known ones around this area is unfair to say that I am one too. You could have at anytime taken the drive to see us and your pup and then you would have known that your statements are far from the truth. You can not sit in another state and assume or conjour up lies about someone and think that people will take what you say seriously.
Your whole article is about not having the parents Rabie tag number. Seriously, in the 20 years that I have been a breeder, I have not had one person ask for the parents rabie tag number. The most important thing is that you are buying a healthy pup from healthy parents. The pup you were interested in has since found a home and is thriving well and would have in your home as well if you would have giving us a chance. So the Moral of the story really is.. Dont Judge people without knowing all the facts or seeing first hand. If you want people to take what you say seriously then report the real facts and not inforamtion you have made up or you think might be true.
