I purchased a piece of luggage on the Luggagebase.com website on 09/14/09. The luggage arrived on 09/22/09. My credit card company's fraud protection department contacted me on 09/24/09 alerting me to the fact that someone had attempted to use my credit card at a store in California on 09/23/09 - the same state that Luggagebase is located in.
I live in New York and have not set foot in California for more than 3 years. Luggagebase is located in California and I have not purchased anything online from any other businesses located in California. Therefore, I feel that it is very likely that someone in Luggagebase stole my credit card information.
Luggagebase should strengthen their security procedures to ensure that none of their employees are stealing customers' credit card information.

Really shaky evidence.

I'm not saying that your not right, but the evidence you gave is pretty thin. In these days of electronic commerce, your credit card info could have been stolen at a restaurant in NYC on 9/22 and used in Hong Kong on 9/23. The time that elapsed between the day you gave your credit card info to luggagebase and the day that the fraud occured (over a week), would lead me to believe that they are not necessarily responsible.
I had my card info swiped off the 'net about two years ago. My card was being used all over the country within 16 hrs. of the time it was stolen. Realistically speaking, it's virtually impossible to know where your card data was stolen from, unless you only used the card at one merchant.
