I wish I could give a zero for stars. My wife and I drove to Paterson from Bridgeport yesterday to purchase a 2000 VW Beetle Luxury Cars had advertised. The agreed upon price was $2500. The ad stated it was a great car with mostly highway miles fully loaded, etc. In person they said the same thing, said it'd been checked by a mechanic and cleared, and we took it for a test drive. It made it around the block just fine. So we purchased the car. On the way home we noticed the odometer and dash wasn't working and about 20 miles out the car started shaking like crazy, there was a loud bang, a bright flash of flame from beneath, and a lot of smoke. The car died on the side of I-95 North by exit 4A. I had to call 911 to get help.

Thankfully we had another car to drive with us. It cost $140 to tow it off the highway and another $220 to tow it back to CT. The second tow truck driver said it looked like the transmission blew. I tried several times to get Luxury Car to refund our money. We have a copy of the email where they stated if we bring it back they'd give us a full refund. But they wanted us to pay to tow it back and we spent all our money on a car that doesn't work. When I said they need to pay to tow the car and to refund our money or we'd be referring the case to a lawyer, they said go ahead and sue us. This is the same dealership that two years ago paid $66,000 in fines to NJ for this very thing. I've tried several more times to get a refund but they're determined to not refund our money and now claim the best they can do is fix the car. But they still won't pay the towing fees and have no guarantee they'll actually fix it. All we want is our money back. They knowingly sold us a dangerous car that could've killed us. Breaking down on 95 in the Bronx at night is EXTREMELY dangerous.

Having them refuse to honor their own offer to give us a full refund for the car and pay to tow it back to them should tell you what kind of people these are. I wish I could have said we had problems, they took care of it right away, stand up guys. But they didn't. They basically said not our problem, you pay to bring it back and we'll look at it. What's that do for me? And to face triple damages if I choose to sue them is just nuts. I think they're counting on the fact lawyers cost money, and they do, but the very first money we get is going right to the first reputable lawyer we find. We've already got emails and calls out there. Is it worth it to make the quick $2500 to wind up having to pay three times that plus fines plus attorney's fees after the fact? Doesn't it make more sense to do the right thing?

You have no clue what you're talking about. Why you're trolling a site for customers screwed over is beyond me. You have to be an employee or a friend of theirs. According to the New Jersey fraud statutes AND the lawyer we already retained as-is doesn't cover deceipt and claiming you didn't know is not an affirmative defense. Plus, they told both myself and my wife that in the 3+ months they had it their mechanics went through it and made sure everything was in good mechanical condition. And when you sell a car fraudulently that you know is unsafe it's also criminal. They're lucky I don't pursue criminal charges. This same dealership paid $66,000 in fines two years ago for fraud in 17+ cases. How you can defend that's beyond me unless you one of the employees there, a friend, or a troll.

AS IS!!!

YOU purchased a USED vehicle. In practically EVERY state if YOU purchase a used vehicle, you purchase it AS IS unless YOU also purchase an extended warranty. So LEGALLY they are in the right, it a MORAL grey area. Legally they don't have to do SQUAT. Once YOU drove it off the lot and signed the paperwork its YOUR problem. YOU are an adult so YOU understand that when you purchase a used vehicle there will ALWAYS be issues that need to be fixed. In THIS case, if the dealership didn't drive it over atleast 20 miles how would they KNOW how bad the INTERNAL parts on that transmission are? Its a $2500 USED VW. It would cost them MORE to tear it down just to look at it then they would make. So THEY took the vehicle in on GOOD FAITH. Meaning that there is EVERY possibility that the dealership had NO IDEA that there was a problem UNTIL you broke down. But once its off THIER lot and in YOUR hands its NOT THIER PROBLEM. THEY don't know that YOU didn't try a few fancy moves from a Fast and Furious movie, or that YOU being so excited to have a new vehicle YOU "tested" it out by racing a little. Once its off the lot there are MANY things that YOU could have done to the vehicle. THEY only have YOUR WORD that events unfolded in the manner YOU described. YOU would need VIDEO PROOF that the events unfolded as YOU have described BEFORE they are going to do ANYTHING. In THIS instance YOU are just as much to blame as the dealership, so YOU have to pay YOUR part. As I see it the tow BACK to the dealership is going to be CHEAPER then scrapping THAT car out and finding a new one. While Im sure YOU feel justified in making a RoR about them, YOU have to understand that NO ONE is 100% at fault and EACH person involved MUST take THIER share of responsibility. YOU drove it off the lot so YOU have to take the responsibility of making a USED VEHICLE PERCHASE without an extended warranty. YOU have to take the responsibility that YOU may have caused the damages and are just trying to get someone else to pay for YOUR issue. Adults COMPROMISE, CHILDREN WHINE!! Point of fact: Exactly what are YOU considering "The right thing"? right for YOU or for BOTH?? Odds are its JUST right for YOU and be damned "fair". REALITY and LIFE don't work like this.
