I walked around the store and decided to purchase 3 sweaters. The total came to over $56.00 after applying my 20% discount. I handed my gift card to the clerk who told me that because I used my 20% discount I couldnt pay with my gift card.
No where is it stated on the gift card or on SIGNS in the store at check-out that a customer cannot pay with a Gift Card if they use a coupon. All I was trying to do was get the best price on the items I selected and as a GOOD customer of Macys who would have thought that I couldnt pay with a Gift Card. After all this is cash that Macys has already RECEIVED. But there is the GIFT! It belongs to Macys and since nearly 40% of people never use their gift cards this is just PLAIN CASH in the coffers for them.
Now I can use my Gift Card, but I cannot expect to get the lowest price for an item. No sir Macys want to be sure that a Gift Card only entitles the recipient to what they call a FAIR PRICE, even if means other people can get the same item for a cheaper price in the SAME STORE!
This is a TOTAL RIP-OFF!!!

I'm sure it says "may not be combined with other discounts and offers" somewhere on that coupon. Oh wait, it does, because I have THE EXACT SAME COUPON! TRY READING IT NEXT TIME!

For the person that called me an "Idiot". I just wanted to you know that I WAS USING my Macy's Card. But I wanted the them to take the Gift Card first. There was NOTHING Stupid about what I wanted. The stupid part was the Employee who didn't care. That is why the Manager fixed this for me and she explained that the Employee could have called to get help about how to use the Gift Card for this sale.
My Gift Card was as well a Macy's Gift Card.

You are an idiot. That 20% off coupon was a star rewards coupon, only issued to card holders, and in order to USE that coupon you MUST put it on your macys card.
We ask that you do that because if we didnt, then any old ordinary Joe without a macy's card could use the coupon.
Macy's card holders are entitled to perks and "member's only" coupons.
So before you go bashing a company that you are supposedly so loyal to, try reading!

It is good that they made good.
No where is it stated on the gift card or on SIGNS in the store at check-out that a customer cannot pay with a Gift Card if they use a coupon.
I noticed you conveniently left off what the coupon said. Most likely since you were a "GOOD" customer, you have an account with them, and that is how you got the coupon. The coupon you got probably stated(if it is like the ones I get) that you have to use your Macy's card to use the coupon.
It has nothing to do with using the Gift Card, you probably would have had the same answer if you had tried to pay cash, or use a different credit card.

The Manager in the Gaithersburg store called me on the phone and went through the process over and made the purchases I made today good and paid by my Gift Card.
