Magnolia Homes Of Mississippi - David Rainey Unexperienced, Unsupervised Long Delays Not to Code Bad contractor lies dishonest ripoff Gulfport Mississippi

I contracted with David Rainey of Magnolia Homes to build my house following Hurricane Katrina. They were a new company, so I could not find much information about them. David said that he was licensed, bonded, and insured. David stated that he lived around the corner so that he would be able to supervise the job easily. I was told my house would be completed in 6 months unless weather stopped them.

I have had major problems with the foundation. The chainwall is not tied into the slab. The slab is very uneven and wavy. The slab is not square. To compensate for this, one end of the wall hangs off of the chain wall while the other end of the wall had to be moved in several inches encroaching on living area.

He was supposed to have the house blacked in before receiving 2nd draw of approx. $80k. We went to the lawyer and signed so that he would receive his money. Sixty Five (65) days went by before he was able to pass the Code inspection. In the mean time we paid intrest to the bank, now at a higher rate due to the $80K draw.

We wanted OLD JACKSON Brick with White Mortar. As the brick was being installed, we called David to question the color. We saw that white mortar was going into the mixer, but the mortar looked dark. David assured us that the mortar would lighten up as it dried, so the brick layers continued to brick. Come to find out, David used the wrong sand which made the mortar a pink color. This totally changed the look of the house. Not only was the mortar wrong, but the brick company had sent "modular" instead of "queen" sized brick. If a knowlegable person had been there to supervise then this would not have happened.

We have asked David to produce documentation of being bonded. As of now, he has not provided this information.

I know of another couple who are having their house built by Magnolia Homes of MS. They too are displeased.
