I was contacted by Mailbox Magazine in the guise of partnering with Publisher's Clearinghouse to notify me that I was a finalist in the sweepstakes. I fell for it! (Only later to find out through searching the web that Publisher's Clearinghouse no longer is in the business of magazine subscriptions). Anyway, they contacted me and told me that as a finalist, I would be receiving a womens diamond watch and 3 magazines of my choice, of course from a list of magazines THEY have and a 4th one at a "discounted" price, to "help" to defray costs of only $59.80 for a 5 year subscription. While on the phone with this woman, she told me that once the order was placed, it would be NON-CANCELLABLE. (That's illegal!) I immediately told her NOT to place the order because I couldn't afford it, and not only that, but I didn't WANT it. She had already placed the order and told me that they "owed" me something in return for the $59.80 they had already processed. I thought "WHAT!!!" So, I did a little research on the web and found out by reading this Rip-off site that phone magazine orders are cancellable up to 30 days. I immediately called up the company and was soon speaking to Chastity #224. We bantered back and forth about me receiving a refund and she plainly stated that that was NOT going to happen. She stated that the magazines had already been ordered and paid for and there is no way for them to be refunded and she was absolutely in no way, shape or form going to issue a credit back to me. She called it the state of the business, I called it fraud. I then faxed them over a letter demanding a credit be processed and noting State Law that says the consumer has 30 days to receive a refund. After reading the letter written by this lady on this Rip-off site, I realized, I've been scammed. My story is almost exactly what I read in her story. That's scary! Deceptive practices, fraudulent business practices. They need to be put out of business by the governing entities in their State of Tamarac, Florida. I am NOT going to allow them to get away with this. I immediately called my bank and requested them to shut down that card number and issue me a new one, so they can never receive another payment. If they try to collect, I'll sue them. If the governing bodies of law in Florida won't do their job and shut them down, then the FTC, Attorney Generals, FBI, Secrete Service, Homeland Security, US Postal Inspectors, local & State Police will be notified that someone is NOT doing their job.
