I moved my printer and computer from my neighbor's house to my house when I got FiOS connection. I thought I would need to do something to allow my computer and printer to connect wirelessly. As it turned out, All that was required was resetting my default printer setting. I checked the support that came with my printer when I purchased it and there was nothing that covered what I was looking. for. I have been using a tech support company - US Tech (phone #877-770-0215). I pay them $20 per month for unlimited support. I have always received top level support from them. But since I was dealing with a HP printer, I called the number they gave me for free support. That company is Maplevision Systems. From my experience they are both incompetant and dishonest.
I had Vista which was working fine for me and it had a low feature word processor that was very useful to me. Maplevision told me I had to install Windowns 7 (which is not the current system from Microsoft) in order to allow my computer and printer to connect wirelessly. So they were happy to sell me Windows 7 for $199.99. Since it was so out of date it began to install updates, 369 updates. Before that started I asked if Windows 7 had the same word processor installed. No it does not. But they told me I could purchase Microsoft Office Suite 2007 for just a little under $300. Since I needed a word processor, I swallowed hard and paid them. The difference between the cost of Office Suite 2007 and $300 was the "software" needed to allow the wireless connection. So I spent $500. I was on the phone with them for the better of 4 days. Just about then, the 369 updates began to run. Untill it hit 72 or so. The computer then froze. I was so frustrated I had to lay down for a while. The computer was frozen and I had the feeling it was destroyed. I couldn't get any sleep, so I called US Tech, the company I have always used. They had the computer unfrozen and running (limited) in 45. They told me there was no need for any software to allow wireless connections, if the printers are wireless capible, that is all you need. But Maplevision Systems did so much damage - making wrong settings and things I don't understand. It took Us Tech 2 full days to get the computer running. There are still somethings we need to fine tune.
But please be warned, you don't get involved with them. There icon they put on your desktop is a white square with a guy with a mustash. I've put in a claim with my bank to get my money back. They put the money back, but the "investigation" is on going. Their "investigations" usually is them calling the company I complained about, if they say they did the work or the sales were legit, the take the money bqack from me. Us Tech sent me a report on their letterhead listing all the "unethical" and useless. Since I have that as evidence I have faith that my claim will stand up
