Same pattern as the other two complaints on this site: Takes money, gets subcontractors to push the project as far as he can without paying them, then asks for MORE money for "extras", then ditches the project. Subs then put liens on YOUR property. This time he forged documents so the police are finally interested. He's getting worse, though: He got me for over $50,000.
Meanwhile, the construction lender is charging interest on the stolen money (even though they approved disbursements for things that weren't purchased and weren't done). WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT DISHONEST CONTRACTORS IN THIS STATE? The TRCC is worthless: After repeated complaints, Labate just cancelled his own license and bought another one UNDER HIS OWN NAME!
It's time for reform of lien laws as well: HE picked the subcontractors, HE ripped off the subcontractors, HE has my money for the subcontractors, and now the subs are all coming after me with liens on my property.
But, back to Labate: He's pathological. 6 victims this year so far. 1 bankruptcy, 1 conviction in Williamson County for harrassment, several civil judgements against him and one pending criminal case.
