Last year I was taken in by an organization that I thought was the official CG documentation department - US Vessel Documentation.  Their written communication and website are misleading, leaving one with the impression that they are official, even to the point that they provide your contact info if one wants to check on status of renewal.  I should mention that for 27 years I have renewed my document faithfully even when we were on a world voyage, never missed.

Somehow I missed your renewal notification and they picked up on the fact that I was out of compliance and sent me an official looking letter stating what it would cost me to reinstate my document. So I paid them (thinking I was paying you) $600 which included reinstatement plus two more yearly renewals.

Then this year I received their official looking renewal letter for this year. Wondering why when I had paid the multiple renewal fee, I called and the clerk said it was an error? All was OK.  Next, shortly thereafter I received the real renewal letter from USCG.  So I contacted USCG and discovered that I had not been working with you, but rather an agency. Further I heard to my dismay they had inflated the fee by several percentages and they, not the CG renew the document as my agent.  And the cherry on top, CG does not renew multiple years, only they do.
