I went to Dr. Mark Luban to get some work done. I paid him in cash ahead of time for all my work. I needed several things done so it was going to happen over a period of time. I went 3 times. In those 3 times, I heard his own nurse call him a profanity while I was laying there getting my teeth cleaned.
Then my daughter had a seizure and I missed an appointment. They called me and I called them back a few days later apologizing. They said "You missed an appointment and we are going to have to charge you a fee". I told them that my daughter had a seizure and that I was sorry. They said well, if you make another appointment we will not charge you a fee. I said great!
Naturally, I forgot the appointment and a week later I got a bill for $150 for a no show fee! I called immediately and I said where does it say $150 for a missed appointment fee? She sent me the contract (the secretary also wrote on it "HOW DARE YOU!!!" I signed that stated the following: "If you miss an appointment it is our policy to charge a reasonable fee" REASONABLE? $150! WHAT? Never ever go to him. He is not only a total jerk, his own staff hates him, and they will charge you $150 if you miss an appointment!

This shouold have been screened out before it was sent because it sounds like you just have a personal issue with this office that has nothing to do with Dr. Ludun.
Regarding your beef with the place in Chula Vista, got a problem with the price, then do not make an appointment. He has a right to charge 4000.00 for a cleaning and if he gets it, then more power to him.
Anyways, that does not matter. This person missed an appointment and was charged 150.00 If he/she has a real problem with it, then they should not pay it. Most no-show fees will not hold up in court, however, I completely agree with Brenda on a waste of the dentists time and $$$. They should pay the fee, esp. if there was a contract signed(whether they saw it or not)

Okay, explain this to me Robert, she missed her appointment, meaning the dentist had her scheduled let's say 1:00 pm. A day before that, MOST DENTIST CONFIRM EITHER BY MAIL OR A PHONE CALL THAT THEY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT THE NEXT DAY. She said she forgot her appointment, the reason she got charged the $150 is she didn't call nor showed up. (a no call/no show patient) she said she forgot so she didn't call.
So you want the dentist to call her up if she didn't show up after her 1 pm appointment to tell her she's going to get charged the $150 if she didn't show up? She already forgot the appointment, they can't see her now since the dentist has other patients to see. Reschedule the appointment? They did, this is her second appointment and she forgot it, AGAIN!
Robert, you apparently have no idea how a dental office work so before you give your opinion, be sure you have some credentials to back it up. Your opinion doesn't make any sense.

Your comments made absolute sense. Like I said earlier, there was good reason for Alynn to miss her first appointment. Now if she forgot about her second appointment -- well, I think the dentist should've at least called and reminded her about that to avoid the $150 fee; or at least rescheduled the appointment the day she forgot about it.
Other than that I agree with what you say.
As for P, I think before I post anything here. You obviously did not read the entire post and fully comprehend what Alynn was saying in the first place.

I work for a dental office and understand the expense of a missed appointment. There is no excuse for the way this person was treated after his/her daughter had a seizure. "If you make another appointment, you won't be charged." Gee, thanks for the compassion.
However, for others who think they can just blow off the appointment for any reason, think about this. If you are scheduled for an appointment that will produce $1500.00 and you just "no show", who will pay the doctor's staff, equipment charges, building lease, utilities, etc. during that time? There is a common misconception that dentists walk around with money falling out of their pockets and can afford to stand around doing nothing instead of producing that $1500.00 that you just ditched out on. The overhead cost of running a dental practice is typically anywhere from 50-75%, so a loss of $1500.00 can be very significant.
Again, let me stress that a child having a seizure is absolutely reason enought to miss an appointment and I sympathize with you. This comment is directed at those who just choose to blow off their appointments.

I think you should read again the letter, it said she missed her first appointment due to her daughter having a seizure, then they said they won't charge her a fee if she'd make another appointment, they won't charge her the $150. So she didn't get charged the first time she missed an appointment, and she got charged a second time.
Apparently you don't own a dental office, wherein time are alloted to patients and if they don't show up, that time is wasted, the dentist pays rent, pays the assistant, pays insurance and basically pays a lot of money to keep the dental office running. The office provided leeway when they didn't charge the patient the first time she didn't show up, but she even said herself, that "Naturally, I forgot the appointment and a week later I got a bill for $150 for a no show fee!"
A now show fee means that the patient never called and never showed up. She got what she deserved. So I think you SHOULD THINK BEFORE YOU POST!!!!

It is quite obvious to me that you did not fully read Alynn's story completely. Alynn had no idea whatsoever she was going to be charged $150 and never signed anything to begin with other than to have work done on her teeth.
While it is a Cardinal sin not to read what you are signing, my guess is this "$150 fee" was applied after she signed the paperwork... or her signature was forged?
I think this denistry is a total rip-off. I have never, ever heard of any dentisty charging this much for missed appointments let alone cancelled appointments; and in this case it is clearly obvious that the welfare of Alynn's daughter was priority one and that is something Dr. Luban did not care about.
Nice try, P! If it was me, I'd tell them to stick their $150 missed appointment fee in a place that doesn't belong. It's very sad that people like you does not think about Alynn's daughter.
If you had a child suffering a seizure and you had a dentist appointment, which is more important to you?
Think about that before trying to contribute your posts to this subject.

The office gave you a break for missing your first appointment. You were aware of their policy yet you 'forgot' again. Pay the bill and keep your appointments in the future. Most offices have similar policies for missed appointments because there are so many inconsiderate patients like you.
