Two very charming young girls approached me at my mail box, giving their names as Bre & Monica, stating that they were trying to raise funds so their Harris County softball team could all go & play ball in Hawaii! They stated they had made All District & State.  They had ready answers to my questions, and in retrospect, should have raised my suspicisions. Ans: They lived near the entry of our subdivision, their last name was Lassiter, they were home schooled, as their Dad was retired miliary so they had moved a lot.  Q's: How long had I lived here...since '79 - they said they'd lived here since the 1950's.  I said well you lived in a pasture then, cause this wasn't built until the 1970's.  By my purchasing some magazines, I would have a tax deduction - which I couldn't use, and if I didn't want the magazines, they would be sent to our military overseas.

With the last statement, this allows them to leave blank the name and address where the subscription is to be sent...and  I'm quite sure, no magazines are EVER mailed. They also stated I had a 3 day right of recission.  The cost for two subscriptions was $51.00 each, but I would receive a refund of $17.00 each in a couple of weeks.  The next day when I looked at the Notice of Cancellation requirements, it could not be done by phone, it had to be mailed or notice sent by TELEGRAPH.  I don't thinik that service even exists today.  I immediately went on line and issued a stop payment order with my bank and sent an email advising the company to whom I had written the check I wouldn't be doing any business with them.  I then checked them out online and found many other reports, which were almost verbatum of the sales pitch they used. I have always turned away any type of solicitation sales, especially in the neighborhood, and was completely conned by these two.  They also said they would be by in a couple of weeks when they returned from Hawaii and let me know if they had WON!!!I wouldn't be so angry if they had not alluded to sending the magazines to our military....they should be made to spend some time in the trenches!  I hope this helps someone else avoid the scam!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

An ex-employee with some advice

AUTHOR: CAH of OR - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 16, 2010

You know, its funny how I get home from selling for this company and look them up on ripoff report to see exactly what people say. I know the two girls reported and I can stand up for them and say THEY are not the ones to blame. The ones you should be looking down on is their bosses. The ones who send them out everyday to do what they were TAUGHT and TRAINED ON how to do. Yes, in a sense they have a choice. But when your down and out and a life experience like that comes along, in their circumstances, it was a better choice. 90% of the people who come to your door and lie to you to get a magazine subscription were homeless trying to make a better life away from those problems. I was one of those people at one point. Just like any other teenager they made mistakes and those mistakes led to more mistakes. I dont see how people can get on here and report the people who sold to them when the people they should be looking at are the people who "pimp them out" for the money you gave them. Those girls made $4 daily off of each sale they made and then a certain amount goes into an account that is deducted daily for hotel fare and money to eat on. As God himself would say if he could speak to us right now face-to-face "take a walk in someones shoes and see how they live before judging them". Bre is back home now. She realized what the magazine business was doing to people and took her better judgment over the money. Not all the kids doing it wanted to...but they needed to. Some of us just need to get away for a while and see whats going on in the rest of the world before deciding where we really belong. Just as I have. I am also back home. I still talk to Bre everyday. Shes one of my best friends. Shes a great person. BUT like everyone else, Shes not perfect. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES. Its not a life experience I will ever regret. But its three years of my life that I can say with full confidence was spent a lot more wiseley than it would have been spent smoking meth, snorting cocaine, popping pills, amongst other problems most of those kids have had. Maybe you should think twice about giving someone with NO PRODUCT AT THE DOOR your money. Dont blame them. Blame yourself for giving it to them and blame the people who sent them out their and fooled them into doing it. Lying and deciet is what you usually experience out on the road. But where dont you experience that?
