ON 7/23/02 MY BREAKS WERE INSPECTED BY MIDAS WHO GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $1,200 TO REPAIR. ON 7/24/02 SPOKE TO STEVE GUNN AT MARTIN'S AUTO AND SHOWED HIM THE WRITTEN MIDAS ESTIMATE AND WAS TOLD MARTIN'S AUTO WOULD PERFORM THE SAME WORK FOR $325.
ON 7/25/02 CAR WAS DROPPED OF FOR BREAK REPAIR AND QUOTE OF $325 WAS GIVEN. ESTIMATE WENT UP ON 7/26/02, 7/27/02 & 7/30/02 UNTIL FINAL PRICE OF $988.37 WAS REACHED. CAR WAS NOT READY FOR PICKUP UNTIL 08/2/02, WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAR NOW HAD "PERFORMANCE" PROBLEMS, WHICH IT DID NOT HAVE PRIOR TO MARTIN'S WORK. I PAID MARTIN'S $700 ON MY CREDIT CARD AND A CHECK FOR $288.37.
WHILE DRIVING HOME THE CAR WAS "SPUTTERING" (WANTING TO STALL) AND THE BREAKS WERE MAKING SQUEAKING AND GRINDING SOUNDS. AFTER I ARRIVED HOME I NOTICED THAT ONE OF MY HUB CAPS WAS CRACKED (WHICH WAS NOT PRIOR TO MARTIN'S WORK). I TRIED CALLING MARTIN'S AUTO BUT COULD NOT GET A HOLD OF STEVE GUNN (MANAGER) UNTIL 8/26/02, WHEN HE REFUSED TO HONOR HIS WARRANTY FOR THE WORK PERFORMED ON MY CAR AND HUNG-UP ON ME.
ON 8/26/02 I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU & ON 8/27/02 I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS. NEITHER AGENCIES ARE DRIVING THIS ISSUE AND IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. ON 12/30/02 I HAD MY CAR INSPECTED BY ANOTHER SHOP WHO REPORTS THAT THE WORK & PARTS SUPPLIED BY MARTIN'S AUTO IS POOR (REAR BRAKE SHOES CRACKED, BACK PLATE WORN, REAR SPINDLE DAMAGED, RETAINER SPRING CAPS NOT ALIKE, REAR BREAKS NOT ADJUSTING PROPERLY), WORK ALL PERFORMED BY MARTIN'S AUTO.
TO TOP IT ALL OFF, THIS GUY HAS ALL KINDS OF PROMISE KEEPER STUFF IN THE FRONT OFFICE, GIVING PEOPLE THE ILLUSION THAT HE IS SOME KIND OF HONEST CHRISTEN PERSON. I HAVE MANY FRIENDS WHO ARE PROMISE KEEPERS AND HE DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO THOSE PEOPLE. MARTIN'S INTEGRITY AUTO HAS NO INTEGRITY.

I have been a customer of Martin's Integrity Auto for over ten years now and it saddens me that this single negative report is the second-highest linked response on Google. We initially went to Steve Martin after hearing a radio ad for his auto repair shop. Believe me, finding a good, trustworthy mechanic had been a challenge and we were delighted to discover this shop.
All of our interactions with Steve and his shop have been very professional, courteous and although we've moved a considerable distance from his shop, we still take the extra trouble to go to Steve. He has always given us options and worked with us to save us money.
Although I don't doubt that Kurt had some sort of conflict with Steve's shop, his story seems odd in places. It took nearly a month to contact the manager? He's blaming "sputtering" and performance issues on brake work? He had his brakes inspected FIVE MONTHS after the work was done?
It seems to me that there's probably more to this story.
