The Mass. Underwriting Association is the only place where Mass citizens can buy insurance if you live too close to the ocean bay. (3 miles) It is a law that if you have a mortgage - you must purchase home owners insurance. We pay five payments of $355.00 - or about 1,700.00. The system has an on-line service where you can pay on line and get a confirmation that you paid your insurance. I paid all five payments on-line and wasn't thinking about home owners insurance!

Two months after I made my last payment - my mortgage company sends a letter to say " we have been cancelled" - I was not worried as I had all my confirmations and had never heard from my insurance company or the MPIUA. When I called my insurance company - he told me my policy was cancelled and I would need to pay the 1,700 again!

My last payment had not gone thru (they didn't know why) and we had been dropped and would be forced to start all over again........I could not pay the $355.00 - and have another five months before the next payment period started.

Even though I got confirmation from MPIUA...they told me it doesn't mean anything. I confirmed I had three to four times more funds that were needed so it wasn't declined due to lack of funds ....they weren't sure why it didn't go thru. I believe this is pure greed! And I wonder if this happens more than the state government suggests- It is a nice way of making alot of money!!! The MASS state government has taken over both home and health insurances - and you can't fight the state!

I paid every payment on time and their own records showed I paid....but because of some computer error...my family will have to repay all five payments. They never sent any correspondence and the MPIUA were so disrespectful on the phone I was shocked! I am so angry at the state of MASS and the enviornment that gives this state all of that power!
