Mathers Realty Rent from mathers Realty and you can kiss your money goodbye! Las Cruces New Mexico

I moved into an apartment complex managed by mathers realty last November. I signed a 6 month lease which stated I will be charged a $50 dollar fee when I move out for the repainting of the walls.

I left a deposit of $350 and went off to my new place. When I arrived I filled out the move in check list (The one that states there is something wrong with the apt.) and returned it to Mathers.

I had informed Mathers management about many of the things that needed to be fixed and the wear-n-tear already done on the apt. Closet door was broken and off the tracks, screens on windows were not correct size, windows were not properly sealed, tears in the linoleum, no door stoppers, stains on the counter tops, fridge door was bent and bottom tray was broken. They generated a work order that was never completed. I called many times and spoke to every member of the staff. I got the run around by them.

Around June our water heater breaks and leaked all over the apt. I notified them and it took them 3 days to get us a new one installed. It ruined the carpet and began to smell musky in the apt. They sent out someone to treat the carpet. The people they sent tore up the carpet and placed huge fans to dry under the carpet. When they were finished they laid new padding and patched up the carpet. The carpet people did not do a very good job. They left tears and holes from the tools they used on the carpet. I notified mathers of the shoddy job done and they said "Dont worry about it, we know you didnt do it". The smell still stuck around so they sent the carpet guys back out to shampoo the entire floor. We moved out about 1-2 weeks later.

I spent an entire day cleaning my apt. I thoroughly cleaned every bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. Went over everything twice.

After I checked out, Mather's said they would be sending me my deposit to the adress I left with them. A month later still nothing. I called them and they told me that they have not completed our check out list. I was then told that someone had already moved into the apt.
Excuse me! They havent completed the check out list but someone already lives there???

I then received a letter notifying me that I owe them $29 for repair done to the apartment. I asked to be sent a list of all the repairs done and the said they would fax it to me. 2 weeks of me calling everyday and finally someone sent me the fax. I read the list and they charged us for everything we put on our move in check list plus damage to carpet and replacement of 2 light bulbs.

I just amazed that they would tell me not to worry and then hit me with these charges. I tried to talk with them about the charges and the conveniently lost my move in list so "they had to charge me for everything". I don't think replacing a couple of bulbs and tightening some screws would cost $379.

They refused to take any of the charges off claiming I have no documented proof that I didnt cause these problems.

I spoke with some other former tenants of mathers and they all said the same thing happened to them. This is just a very poorly managed realty firm. They dont care about tenants and will do anything they can to keep your money.

Watch out with Mathers, they will rip you off!
