I recently graduated from college and re-entered the job market. One job listing I found online was with M.A.X.I.S Consulting. This company posits itself as a business marketing firm; I found them on career builder. They have a professional looking website, and sound professional over the phone. That's where the professionalism ends. They specialize in ambiguity. I wondered exactly what "Outsourced Customer Acquisition" meant; I've worked in Advertising before, it could mean about anything.

So I gave this company the benefit of the doubt and drove to Portland from Pocatello, Idaho (a LONG f**king drive) to stay with a friend and go to the interview. The night before my interview we google mappped MAXIS so I would know how to get there in the morning. I found a lot more than maps. I found rip-off reports from people who had shrugged off the ambiguity, given the place a chance, and paid the price. So I investigated further.

It seems this company operates under three different names (The Landers Group, BMF Global, and M.A.X.I.S Consulting) but they all do the same thing--operate out of nondescript offices right next to each other, scamming people. My guess is when the Landers name and office got hot, they switched to BMF until it got hot...so on and so forth. It turns out that "outsourced customer acquisition" means dumping people off in the ghetto on foot with a bunch of sales materials. Knowing all I needed to know I didn't go to the interview; they are expecting me as I write this. It's a good thing I have friends in the area and have had a lovely time otherwise, so this trip is not a complete loss. The toughest part for me is I should have known better. I'm grateful for the other rip-off reports, they saved me from a potentially bad situation. DON'T GIVE THESE PEOPLE ONE MINUTE OF YOUR TIME!!!

Are you insane? The distance of driving 700 miles is like me driving from the San Francisco Bay Area down to the San Diego area. Even if the job was legitimate, I would have done more research before driving down 700 miles. I would have researched the company, the job, the salary, etc.
