Maxwell Gates Enterprises stuffing envelopes scam Mendham, New Jersey

I make a very good check every week with Gates, no reason you wouldn't also.

I Recieved a letter today about stuffing letters in an envelope for $20 per envelope. It says I have the potential to make up to $5,000. Not just potential to make money, and it says when they recieve the letters back I will get paid. No where does it say that people have to buy anything, so I can get paid. And it say's they desperately need help. And I will get paid every Tuesday and will recieve it by Friday. Should I go for it or say forget about it?

Finally a voice of reason. Hi Marshall, good to meet another successful Maxwell Gates user. Can you believe how ignorant all these people on here are? If they have no experince with it, they should keep their mouths shut. Youre correct with the statement above. That case was dropped and I hope like hell Gates sues the government for wasting taxpayer money like that. I also would attend in support of them against these government idiots. Explaining it is easy. That case was dropped, the story is old. As a customer we are kept updated which I think is very responsible of Gates to do. That's how your government wastes YOUR taxpayer money, by going after a company based on TWO COMPLAINTS! Its right in the original news article. These incompetent government workers used only TWO complaints to file a suit. That company has well over a million customers at least. To have two complaints might be the best record ever. Im a great example, I understood everything I received and have made a paycheck every week. What else is there to know? The government hates home based businesses, simple as that. They always did and always will. They go after every single one of them no matter how well and honest its run. Im hoping Gates sues them in return, they'd have every right to and I would certainly attend the court proceeding to help them

March 2, 2011 NEWARK - The Office of the Attorney General and the Division of Consumer Affairs have filed suit against a
Mendham-based work-at-home company and its principal, alleging that they defrauded consumers through offers to earn income by stuffing envelopes or assembling booklets.
The state's lawsuit is part of "Operation Empty Promises," a nationwide crackdown against work-at-home scams announced today. Operation Empty Promises is a multi-agency law enforcement initiative which includes ten FTC actions, forty-eight criminal actions by the Department of Justice (many of which involved the assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection
Service), seven additional civil actions by the Postal Inspection Service, and twenty-six actions by state law enforcement agencies.
The state's five-count Complaint, filed in State Superior Court in Essex County, alleges that David S. Brookman, 40, and his company, Capital Enterprises, Inc., violated the state Consumer Fraud Act and Advertising Regulations through bait-and-switch tactics in advertisements that stated consumers could earn "up to $5,000 or more weekly" by stuffing
envelopes and mailing letters, and "$2,500 or more weekly" by assembling booklets.
The state alleges that after consumers paid registration fees to Brookman and Capital Enterprises, defendants then changed the terms and conditions of their work-at-home programs to require additional undisclosed payments and fees. Capital Enterprises does business as Maxwell Scott Enterprises, Maxwell Scott, David Gates Enterprises, and Warner Daniel. The state's Complaint alleges that David Gates is an alias used by Brookman.
The state is seeking restitution for consumers, along with imposition of civil penalties and reimbursement of attorneys' fees and costs and defendants' compliance with the state's consumer protection laws and regulations.
The lawsuit, which is being transferred to State Superior Court in Morris County, alleges that the defendants engaged in unconscionable commercial practices and used deception, false pretenses, false promises and misrepresentations to defraud consumers. The defendants allegedly also knowingly omitted material facts when soliciting consumers and engaged in bait-and-switch tactics.
For example, the defendants allegedly failed to disclose to consumers prior to their payment of the registration fee for the booklet assembly work-at-home program that the stated income potential for assembling booklets only applied if the consumer, at his or her own expense, advertised and marketed the very booklets they were to assemble.
Consumers can file complaints with the Division of Consumer Affairs by using the forms available at www.njconsumeraffairs.gov or by calling 1-800-242-5846 (toll-free within N.J.) or 973-504-6200."

I find it rather odd that the only 3 people who praise this program are the same 3 on different threads who probably work for the company as well or could be the same person posing as 3 different people. Daniel Caswin,Debra Carlucci, and Scott hammerlin. So I think i'll just wait til I have nothing better to do than waste $199 on something like this just to see if something happens. but for the most part I'll stick to my own business that is working for me right now so that I don't have to work for any pathetic bosses with god complexes and a requirement for butt kissing which I have never done and am not about to start to.

Unfortunately for you the address is legit you just don't know how to enter it in properly in the mapquest search parameters, for instance you don't add the #433 as apart of the address or you will get the "address not found" msg. There is a business there,what is actually there we can only speculate.

They prey on the week. You are in financial trouble, that is why you received the letter. Debbie and Danny work for the company,they are the only people who claims they receive checks. Fake checks. I have seen her fake check. Go out to dinner tonight and spend some of that money I just saved you on you. Thanks

I am not sure this is a rebuttal but more a question or comment. I just received this letter also and was ready to send them $199.00 for the 990 package and boy I'm glad to havelooked into it before sending the check. My question is, is there anyone else known of other than debra C that this actually worked for? For all I know Debra is Maxwells mother. And I agree with the victims there is no mention of having to copy letters or pay the postage which I wouldn't even care about if I was to actually to get paid the promised amount. And there is no mention in the letter of only getting paid if someone accepts your mailings which that bothers me huge. I also wanted to ask if yens got the other letter in the mail of sending out 200 copies of a pyramid letter? I must be on a suckers list now.

Apparently you do not know how to use MapQuest. 88 E. Main St is a real address that I have sent certified mail to. How could I send certified mail to a fake address? Did you not see my paycheck? When you dont know what youre saying, keep your mouth shut. You just look like an a** otherwise. Gates is a real company that send me real paychecks

First off, Debra C who ever you are. Sit down and take a number. Let me make my presence known. Ok first on Map Quest. There is no address of this company. That address is made up sweetie. On E. Main St. Where the City and State. It is no Maxwell Gates Enterprise company. There is no E-Mail address nor Contact number to call. People get real here not fake. No company, aswell will pay you that amount of money it says anyhow. For stuffing envelopes. Don't make me laugh.

If you had bothered to look at my other posts you would see I DID post one of my paychecks. If that doesnt convince you Gates is the real thing, theres no reason to continue this. I make great money with this program, and its steady & reliable

If you actually are getting paid for stuffing these envelopes, they why don't you show proof? It seems that there are more than one person who got the same letter stating they would make $690 and be paid for sending the envelopes out the same week. So I say, prove it that you got paid.

They're many years old, have thousands of customers, but you're basing your attack on one person who claims to have used it? If a company has, say, a hundred thousand customers, and you can only find one complaint from an actual user, you know you have found the right company. With that kind of percentage, its probably a false statement anyway. My checks do not lie. Others on here who have used it mad money as well. The program doesnt guarantee an income, it guarantees an opportunity.. The very first thing it says on the letter I responded to is the word "potential" and it was very clear as to how you are paid. How come we all had no problem understanding what it said? Open your eyes and stop letting your lack of attentiveness damage them

I based my judgement exactly from an individual who DID fall into the deception of the letters he received. In the letter I received, at any place was written that the my payment checks would depend on the results from sales obtained by my mailings. At any place in the letter it was written it was not guaranteed, but it was an opportunity... On the very opposite, it CLEARLY stated that  "Just stuff the special letter that WE WILL SEND YOU, into envelopes that WE WILL SEND YOU, and GET PAID FOR THE WORK YOU DO." He did in good faith paid for the start-up fee, received the package, made copies, mailed them out. ALL ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LETTER. And according to the letter he should have received his promised  $690.00 which he states he never received. It is just so sad that certain individuals are not satisfied in taking advantage of trusting people just once, and keep trying to victimize them with insulting persuasions to continue to fall in their cunning traps.

Anybody else notice there isnt a single complaint from people who have actually bought and used the program like myself? You people complaining must have very empty lives to spend your time barking about something you have absolutely no first hand knowledge of. Everyone asks me if it worked. I tell them, yes, it did... and they still complain. Ridiculous. You dont even have top  buy ANYTHING more from Gates after the first package. Theyre looking for you to work, like me, not sell that package repeatedly. Try giving it a fair chance before you attack it. I did and it has worked out well

I am a recipient of one of these inciting letters promising $10.00 for each letter stuffed and sent back to Maxwell Gates. Paychecks would be sent out every Tuesday and in 10 days I could have my first check. All that after I sent them a sign up fee based on a choice of 5 income groups from $99.00 to $399.00.

Right there I realized that something was NOT right. I start up fee is justifiable to start a business, but  how much I produce later will depend on my own effort to expand my business or how much time I put into it, or how many more letters I stuffed. The letter explains that "part of the fee is for our accountant to set up a payroll plan..." In a business without inventory or overhead, I think the initial investment should be one flat fee and not various values.

I decided to check it out and I am glad I did. I found these reports very useful and they confirmed my suspicion. I realize the victims of this scam probably will not be able to recuperate their money, but if it makes them feel any better, their experience will not happen in vain. I thank them for reporting it and Ripoff Report for publishing it.     

I use it too. How come I knew how I was to be paid and you didnt? Their materials were clear. You complain when the real problem is you didnt read what was right in front of you. You have no right to bash them when it was obviously your lack of due diligence that caused this. I get paychecks from Gates. If you dont, you either did something wrong, or you didnt bother to read and understand its not a guaranteed income... its an opportunity. So ignorant to post this nonsense
