As a protected class employee with disabilities, I have been on staff with Mayo 20+ years. I have had reasonable accommodation due to an occupational injury. My sedentary work was removed from me and I was given more physical work as I did not "appear" to have anything wrong with me. I was chastised, singled out in front of a large group of people, and when I complained about this to HR, I was sent for a surprise medical evaluation. I filed a complaint with the EEOC Miami office and Mayo followed up with constant harassment by a bully boss, stuffing negative remarks in my employee file and demotion of status.
The lack of sleep and dread each day at work of not knowing what I was going to walk into, I got weak. My MD removed me from duty with unresponsive depression. I left work on FMLA leave and I went to group therapy at Wekiva Clinic and discovered that out of about 15 women, three of us patients being treated for anxiety/depression, were Mayo Clinic employees. After speaking with them I found similar stories. All of us were women were near retirement, two of with disabilities, and all of us being forced out of our jobs by Mayo. Coincidence? Or just another company using the excuse of a bad economy to cut lose the weak ones from the herd?
I was written up shortly after returning to work and my job was publicly posted while I was on leave.Where is the EEOC Miami office? It has been a full year since I filed a complaint. Not one phone call, message, or note in the mail. Is there a relationship with this EEOC office and Mayo's claim to "teaching" and upholding equal rights? Mayo claims to be "an affirmative action / equal opportunity educator and employer". "How to dispose of employees before retirement to save money" or the easiest way to save your company by"working lean"and removing the weak ones from the herd.
