Our company agreed to purchase a 5000 sqft metal buidling from MBMI. Before signing the contract and writing the first check, they were pushy, but very friendly and helpful. The situation went downhill in a hurry.

We were promised full "stamped engineered drawings" built to our needs at no extra charge. This couldn't have been further from the truth. They called our county required soils report "excessive and unnecessary" and charged us $1000+ fees for designing around our soil. They charged us thousands more because our ground sloped by 1 degree off of level which they said was "extremely rare".

Their plans are not to drawn to scale and hence not even worth the paper they are printed on as you can't get a commercial building permit with just arbitrary dimensioned drawings. They wanted another $1000+ for anything to scale. It took them months to finally get us foundation drawings and we are still waiting for them to get us stamped building drawings so we can get a building permit.

During this time, they sent us another fee for $2000+ stating that the price of steel went up. The salesman Burt flat out lied when he told us....

Based on your situation, he is going to make a bold move and get the factory to honor the prices we have if we can do business prior to any steel increases

Our contract had a price of $39,xxx. After it was signed and the salesman agreed, the fees started. We are now well over $45,000 between engineering fees, plan fees, steel increase fees, etc, etc, etc.

I talked to their general manager (Brian) today asking them to remove these fees and honor their agreement and reminding them of all the previous broken promises. He resorted to blaming all of the problems on our company, name calling, and even cursing at me. It was extremely unprofessional and surprising given the professionalism and benefit of the doubt I have given them through this process.

Despite clear statements to the contrary on their website, MBMI has no engineering department. All their engineering is contracted out and as far as I have found, their is not a single person with an engineering degree that works at the company. They made engineering claims and promises they didn't have a clue about and when proved wrong, said I didn't know what I was talking about and called us "silly." This was downright insulting and I do have a B.S. in mechanical engineering.

I would highly recommend staying away from MBMI Metal Buildings altogether.

Update to MBMI Complaint

AUTHOR: Motion Constrained LLC - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, October 30, 2013
I would like to post an update to our initial statements regarding MBMI

"I have since learned that MBMI does in fact employ multiple engineers and my initial assumption was wrong."

"While the the steel increase and engineering fees were frustrating, I would like to add that they were clear in the contract and I agreed to them. Our local building department also proved quite difficult through this whole process and demanded a small filing cabinet worth of documentation and reports which delayed the final payment of our building considerably. (over three months). This is no doubt a huge factor in the timeframe MBMI had to deal with."

"Engineering fees were higher than we would have liked, but again, this appears to be attributed to the extreme rules required for getting a building permit in Larimer County. ie, They require that commercial structures actual require scaled drawings, which from what I understand is highly unusual.MBMI's fees for engineering are actually quite reasonable from what we have compared."

" The last time Brian and I talked, we were both upset and said things we regret. Apart from that conversation with Brian, he was very respectful and courteous. The two sales people I worked with were Andy and Burt. Both of them were very professional and courteous at all times. Overall MBMI appears to treats customers well."

Response to Noah

AUTHOR: Brian - ()

POSTED: Thursday, September 19, 2013

I am the General Manager of MBMI and this letter is in response to the knowingly false claims and blatant misrepresentations recently posted to various consumer internet sites about MBMI by Noah from Motion Constrained, LLC.

Initially, it is important to note that the fact that I have to prepare this letter is indeed ironic as it was only a few weeks ago that the author of the complaint, who is also the principal of the company, personally thanked me for helping him regarding some of the additional engineering costs that were not originally included in our contract but that he found to be required by his county government. In his call thanking me, he stated that he understood that these additional costs were above and beyond our standard engineering package. As recently as September 4th he made this comment to one of our staff in an email: "thanks again for all your help with my problematic county government."

With respect to the author's accusation that I resorted to name calling and cursing during our last conversation, this is a baseless claim and knowingly false. As a business professional, I well understand the importance of customer relations and communications skills and have never resorted to the behavior he now accuses me of. In fact, on the day he claims he contacted us and demanded that we remove the fees associated with the additional engineering, it was, in actuality, I who contacted him to make it very clear that his threats against our reputation would not be tolerated.

Quite frankly, as a business owner, the author should be embarrassed with any claim that he was pushed into doing business with us. As with all our customers he contacted us, specifically seeking our products and services. I am not sure who he is referring to when he states that "they were pushy" since he spoke with only (1) of our representatives prior to signing his contract with us. Our records reflect that the MBMI representative he spoke with is a 64 year old sales professional by the name of Burt Strompf who is highly regarded in this industry for over 30 years. In my time with MBMI I have heard nothing but praise for Burt from every one of his customers. The author's comments are actionable and he should be ashamed of himself for attempting to damage that reputation.

Finally, the claim that "MBMI has no engineering department" and that there is "not a single person with an engineering degree who works at the company" is simply false and just another example of the author's lying in what can only be deemed an attempt to extort MBMI into removing costs associated with his project or otherwise damage our business and reputation in the industry. Specifically, in a recent discussion with our engineering department, the author claimed that the engineer working on his project was not Colorado certified – he was adamant about this, and as with all his other claims, each of which was proven to him to be false.

In closing, it is readily apparent that the author's desperate attempts to either force MBMI into acceding to his demands or outright damage the company are unsupportable on any level. The company was well aware of the potential of rising steel prices and it was his delay, and his delay alone, that caused these increases to accrue on his project.

We trust this letter adequately responds to the author's knowingly false and baseless claims. We will deal directly with the author with respect to his defamatory statements and I have directed our legal counsel to pursue any and all means available to protect our good name and excellent reputation.

Sincerely,
Brian Fabricant
General Manager
MBMI Metal Buildings
