I asked for an internet quote to move my belongings from RI to Georgia early April, 2009. Mega Moving & Storage, Inc. quoted me $750 which was quite a bit lower than any other bids. ( this is part of their scam.) My initial list of goods included 20 medium sized containers. When I did not respond to their quote right away, they called me and said they were willing to add items to my list of goods without additional charge. I agreed to contract with them and gave them a small list of additional items. They did not show-up for 3 days and when they did come, it after 9:00pm at night in the dark. I read the contract & knew my list of items to load had to match the list I gave them.
The driver told me my items took up more room on the truck than was quoted. (this is part of the scam) and the price increased to $1236. The company never listed the addional items I added and I had 4 more very small boxes. I told the driver I wanted the 4 small boxes back and he put me off with assurances that he recognized that the company misquoted me. When the driver arrives after closing hours, there is no way to get in contact with the company.
When I contacted Mega Moving about the price change & the circumstances, they told me I was wrong & I was trying to pull something on them. I told them I wouldn't pay & they could keep my things. Two weeks later they called me and we negotiated a price for delivery. In all it was 30 days from pick-up before my things were delivered. Several expensive items were missing. Boxes were crushed and plastic containers filthy. They insure through a 3rd party that pays standard rates on all items. My $600 painting was only worth $25.
In talking to the driver who delivered my goods from another 3rd party conpany, I learned that Mega Moving has been in business a long time under many names. When things get hot, they close business and open up again under a new name. After pick-up the goods are taken to a warehouse in Atlanta where others go through and steal items.

....of why someone should NEVER go on the internet to find a mover. A full service mover (which is what you were looking for) first asks you to fill out an inventory sheet, right? Well, if they're a full service mover, why are they asking you to do their job for them? Finding out what you have to move is THEIR job, not yours and the next thing you should be asking is, "what else won't they do for me?" The ironic thing is that they can then bump the price up because "you didn't put everything down on the inventory sheet."
On top of this, they paid you standard valuation at $0.60 per pound, so yes your $600 painting would have only resulted in a $25 payment. A reputable mover would have offered you the opportunity to purchase Full Replacement Valuation with a deductible value.
Moving is not an inexpensive venture and choosing a mover based on price will cost you FAR more in the end. It certainly did for you...both in dollars paid, delayed delivery, and in items damaged.
