I am a former employee of LoDo Residential Mortgage a division Megastar Financial. During the time I worked there Jon Lopez, my direct boss and the owner of the company verbally and mentally abused me. He constantly bounced my paychecks and told me it was my fault. He asked me to work overtime and on the weekend and never paid me for my extra work. He put me on job probation for asking for my paycheck. He also tried to hold my vacation check from me after I quit.

Jon had a problem with lying to customers and forging signatures in order to close loans.
Jon has serious financial problems and they were passed off to me through verbal abuse. I earned a commission and was to be paid on it last week. The parent company Megastar Financial, refused to pay me and ignored ALL the evidence (including a letter from my client stating that I was his only contact) that the commission was to be mine. I tried contacting Jeff Wilhelm of human resources as well as Anita Padilla the CEO of the company neither of them would listen to my case and ignored the evidence.

I asked Anita to reconsider, and she said her decision was firm. It is my goal to make the general public aware that this company "Megastar Financial Corp- America's most trusted mortgage company" does not know how to treat their employees present or former.

Update by Cara Solimine

AUTHOR: Cara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 29, 2005

This update is in regards to a posting dated 5/26/2005. I asked Ripoffreport.com to remove the statements that were posted, but Ripoffreport.com refused. I explained that I am under court order to remove them, but still RipoffReport.com refused. Therefore, I am writing this update to help resolve the differences that exist between me and Megastar Financial.

Without compromising my ideals, I can state that I was only an employee of Megastar Financial for five months. I need to clarify that my statements regarding the work place environment and the issuance of checks were directed solely at LoDo Residential Mortgage, not Megastar Financial.

In addition, I can say several positive things about Megastar. Megastar Financial has a great correspondent loan program that benefits both the company as well as the customer. Its underwriting and quick turn around times are bullet proof. I have had good experiences with several people at Megastar Financial. Megastar Financial has never bounced a check to me, nor, to my knowledge, anyone else. My problems stemmed solely from my relationship with LoDo Residential Mortgage, and, during the time of my employment with LoDo Residential Mortgage, I never communicated to Megastar any concerns I had. Finally, although Megastar Financial and I disagreed over the payment of my commission, Megastar has, nevertheless, agreed to pay me the commission check.

I hope this update clarifies things and helps clear Megastar's name.

After I read the response by Kevin, I felt I had to respond.

This is a typical response by a "corporation" that contracts out or owns a smaller company. The ex-employee contacts the "big brother" with information regarding inappropriate acts occuring within the "little sister". Big brother collects the information, realizes it is only hurting a few folks, and let's little sister slide. However, when foul is cried, big brother says "I didn't do it" and then pulls my favorite "we didn't own the company then and so we aren't responsible".

I'll venture to guess that the big brothers called the so-called owner/manager of little sister and asked about these allegations. Oh no, I'm sure that little sister's manager didn't take it out on Cara or anyone else he or she felt told on them.

I worked for a company in a similar situation and you know what? It took time, but they got BUSTED! And the saddest thing of all? The people who lost hundreds of thousands of dollars, who had saved and saved for a home, and lost the home and the money. The owner/manager went to jail and the big brother company tried and tried to fight their way out of everything, claiming "I didn't do it" and that they weren't owners to the company then. It didn't work.

So don't worry Cara, they will eventually get theirs. Sure, it may take time, but it will happen. My suggestion for you is take pride in what you TRIED to do by telling the truth, and sit back and watch for a few months. Time will tell. Good luck to you.

MegaStar Financial denies all allegations

AUTHOR: Kevin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 09, 2005

MegaStar Financial acknowledges that Cara Solimine was an employee of LoDo Residential Mortgage, an affiliate of MegaStar Financial, not a division. And that affiliation only became effective January 1st, 2005.

MegaStar wishes to inform the State of Colorado that Cara Solimine has slandered MegaStar by posting false information on the attached site.
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff144116.htm

MegaStar disputes as follows:
MegaStar Financial has no knowledge of any alleged verbal or mental abuse. We note that these allegations were not listed in any other forum Cara used other than this website. We also note that when Cara contacted MegaStar Financial these allegations were not presented at any time. All employees are provided with our employee handbook, which outlines proper procedures when an employee feels wronged in anyway. She never reported any abrogation to MegaStar until after she left our employ. In addition to MegaStar provided Ms. Solimine with the handbook at hire, we also make it available on our private website for MegaStar employees so the handbook is accessible at any time, from any place.

As to the bounced paychecks, MegaStar Financial has never bounced any check of any kind. We take exception to this allegation. Any claim that is alleged to have occurred prior to the January 1st, 2005 effective date was prior to MegaStar Financials involvement with LoDo Residential Mortgage and as such is totally out of the control and purview of MegaStar Financial.

Any inference that somehow MegaStar Financial is responsible for any action prior to the effective date is ludicrous and libelous.
As to the overtime issue, again anything prior to the effective date of January 1st is out of MegaStar Financials purview. After January 1st Cara was employed as a salaried and exempt from overtime employee. Therefore no overtime would be paid. However it is, and has been, MegaStar Financials practice to pay overtime to salaried and exempt employees.

Every employee logs his or her time into an electronic time clock. This insures people are paid the overtime that was worked. We have no knowledge of any job probation of any kind, as there is nothing concerning probation in her employee file with MegaStar Financial. The check for her unused vacation time was manually cut and taken to the LoDo Residential Mortgage office the same day.

As to any lying to customers and forging of signatures; we at MegaStar Financial are appalled. If this allegation were true be assured that MegaStar Financial would take swift action to remediate the situation. If Cara knew or had concerns of any lying and/or forging why did she not bring it to MegaStar Financials attention? Her lack of forthrightness in these allegations would seem to make her complacent with these allegations and co-conspirator after the fact. Again, our handbook outlines the procedure to be followed.

As to financial problems; MegaStar Financial has no problems and is quite solvent. As to any verbal abuse as a result of any alleged financial problems are unknown to us at MegaStar Financial.

We at MegaStar Financial would note that Cara was not a Loan Officer, the person who is wholly responsible for the loan, and as such is not entitled to any commission as a Loan Officer. There is an Employment Contract for Loan Officers that outlines the risk of being the Loan Officer and the remedies therein. Cara signed no such contract.

There is also training and examinations required to be taken prior to anyone becoming a Loan Officer with MegaStar Financial. This is done to assure MegaStar Financial and its clientele that the Loan Officer knows the laws, rules, and regulations of the mortgage industry. Cara had done none of this. She was not a Loan Officer; she was not authorized to originate loans.

Furthermore her disregard to corporate policy placed MegaStar Financial at a huge financial risk as well as risk from Governmental Agency regulation. These are the facts, the "evidence" that Cara speaks of; they do not speak well to her case. The President/CEO personally looked into this matter to be fair and equitable to Cara.

There was no, and is no evidence that Cara was to be paid, or should have been paid any commission for any loan.

These facts were repeatedly conveyed to Cara, but she herself became more abusive and vehement in her tone with Officers and employees of MegaStar Financial.

Her negligence place MegaStar at risk due to salability of this loan.

We are sorry Cara felt it necessary to make these allegations. Allegations that on their face seem damning, but after applying the facts to them they have no substance whatsoever.
